As a new grandmother, I recently purchased a car seat so that I could transport my granddaughter without needing to move her car seat from her mother's vehicle. After reading the instruction manual, and repeated attempts at installation, I finally admitted defeat. A friend suggested I stop by the local fire department and see if they could assist me.  Today, I was driving by the fire station on Main Street and decided to ask for some help. What a wonderful experience!    Many thanks to Matthew at the Danville Fire Department for taking his time to ensure that my beautiful granddaughter can travel with me safely.

Standing at the end of the aisle in the department store, I heard loud noises from someone coming closer. “Woo who, boo boo, waahhh waahhh.”  The weird sounds were coming from a lady walking down the aisle. And the closer she got to me, the louder her babbling became. She looked to be 60 something, and the younger woman following close behind her I assumed to be the older lady's 20-something daughter. “Poor lady,” I thought. “She must have some disability and is unable to control her voice.

Infant botulism is an illness that can occur when an infant ingests bacteria that produce a toxin inside the body. The condition can be frightening because it can cause muscle weakness and breathing problems. But it is very rare: Fewer than 100 cases of infant botulism occur each year in the United States, and most babies who do get botulism recover fully. Infant botulism is treatable, but because of its severity, it's important to learn the symptoms so you can recognize it early.
