LIBERTY - The Casey County tennis teams aren't the best in the area, but they think they're on the right track to someday getting there. The Rebels are building their programs with youth and experience Two of Casey's top three girls are sophomores, while the No. 1 boy is also a sophomore. But they're sophomores with plenty of games under their belts. Justin Martin, Casey's top singles player, was only the No. 6 player his eighth-grade year before ascending to No. 1 last year.

Christmas could be coming early for Main Street. There is a potential buyer for the Hub building. Those same buyers purchased the pink Economy Inn on Main Street Monday, demolished it on Tuesday, and plan to build a shopping center and restaurant at the site. A Lexington attorney for Audrey and Richard Haisfield told The Advocate-Messenger Tuesday that the couple plan to buy the Hub, renovate it, and put in office space, shops and a restaurant. "They have a deep belief in downtown Danville," said Tom Marks.

Dear Editor: We would like to thank all of you for your interest, concern and participation in various ways during the recent effort to save the East Lexington Avenue area from being faced with the multiple problems that will be caused by the proposed expansion plan of National College of Business and Technology. Although we do not know the decision, we all know that we are blessed to live in a community that can come together to discuss our differences and work together to resolve them in a positive way. John Wall, the nation's top prep point guard, says he wants to play college basketball next season and is not considering a jump to the NBA. "That's just a rumor about me going to the NBA. I don't know how that got started," said Wall via telephone Thursday before practice in New York for the Jordan Brand Classic Saturday night. As an investor, you need to look back no farther than last year to understand why it's not a good idea to own only stocks. In fact, many people buy bonds to lessen the impact of volatility on their investment portfolios. Yet, just as stock prices move up and down, bond prices also fluctuate, primarily in response to rising and falling interest rates. These interest-rate movements can wreak havoc on your bond portfolio unless you can help yourself climb over them with a "bond ladder.

Mayor John W.D. Bowling wants to find out how many people in Danville want door-to-door collection of recyclables. "Do we even know the sentiment out there about recycling?" Bowling asked Monday during a recycling committee meeting. The committee plans to propose a six-month pilot program to the Danville City Commission but decided to wait for feedback from residents. The city may mail out a survey or do a telephone poll. The committee members are debating whether people will be willing to pay for the service.

Dear Editor, My wife and I really enjoy the "Voice of the People" section of The Advocate-Messenger. Not only does it provide a type of public service, but it can also be educational. We look forward to letters from Roger Bowman. He is right on and tells it like it is without a sugar coating. We also enjoy the letters of Jim Powell and Gil Russell. Mr. Russell is in opposition to the views of Mr. Bowman and that makes it very interesting. It gives us something to think about.

Dear Editor, With the state of the economy as it is, many families are choosing activities close to home to fill their summer with fun. This is true for my family as well. Yesterday we visited Cedar Creek Lake for some swimming and sun. On a recent evening we took advantage of the $12 per carload deal at the Stanford Drive-In and enjoyed two great movies. Other inexpensive activities that we enjoy in the area include going to Millennium Park, visiting the Boyle County Wildlife Preserve and the Tom Dorman Nature Preserve in Garrard County.

To the editor: Using the arrest reports of the Nicholasville police and the Jessamine County sheriff from Sept. 9, 2010, through Dec. 30, 2010, I discovered the following: There were 31 Hispanic-named persons arrested for “No Operator’s License.” Of the 324 arrests in these reports, there were not any non-Hispanic-named persons arrested for “No Operator’s License.” So, approximately 10 percent of the arrest were illegals. Looks like our legal system is spending a lot of taxpayers’ money on illegals.
