This week, we take a peek into the mailbag. A reader wrote in asking about how to get content removed from a search engine. A.G. writes: “Information, at the request of an individual, has been removed from a website I am associated with. However, when the information is searched for on Google - it shows up. How can it be removed completely from the Internet? It is of some urgency - family-type info.” My initial response: Anytime anything is posted online, search engines such as Google have copies, as do many other sites.

Paper has been an everyday part of school, from syllabi to assignments to reports to grades. But when you walk in Joyce Bruner's classroom at The Providence School in Wilmore, you will have trouble finding a sheet. In fact, you'd probably find more in the bathroom across the hall. Bruner has set a goal of going “paperless” in all her classes this semester after a generous donation of iPads enabled her to restructure her lessons around the touch-screen technology. “The custodian has commented that we never have paper on our floor - not even a little dribble,” Bruner said.

With a graduating class of nearly 350 students, this weekend’s George Rogers Clark High School commencement will be one of the biggest celebrations of the year. In 2010, approximately two-thirds of the class spent graduation night at Clark County’s Project Graduation, playing games, bouncing on inflatables, singing karaoke and even riding a mechanical bull. “There was so much to do all the time. That was a lot of fun,” said senior Ethan Varner, who attended Project Graduation last year as a junior usher.

Out to run an errand Thursday morning, the female driver noticed a collection of plants, baskets, handbags and trinkets sitting by the curb at The Providence School in Wilmore. Interested but not wanting to stop and get out, she pulled up and had students show her items, load her car, take her payment and bring her change, all while staying in the driver's seat. “It was a drive-through sidewalk sale,” Merrelyn Carmichael said. “It made us happy; it made her real happy.” Carmichael coordinates Providence's Pathways to Careers program and helped start Jessamine Proud Products, the store run by students that features products from Jessamine County vendors, in the fall.

Sophomore Ethan Lasure pulls the line taut on his bow and fires a bolt into a bullseye target in the gymnasium, where more than a dozen students are practicing archery. Sixth-grade student Haylie Pevley sits with four other girls in the cafeteria, painting some personality onto clay vases.
