Notes from Sunday's Kentucky-Louisville game: 1. Kentucky scored a touchdown on its opening drive for the first time since Nov. 16, 2002, against Vanderbilt. That was a span of 24 games without a touchdown on the first series. 2. Kentucky ended Louisville's streak of scoring in 26 straight quarters by holding the Cardinals scoreless in the third period. 3. The Cats held Louisville to three points in the second half, something no opponent did last season. Kentucky also did not hold an opponent to three points in any half last year.

Sarah Tamme has a formula for dividing time between athletics and academics. “You have to study when you can and practice when you have to,” she said. That time-management motto has proven successful for Tamme, who is an all-district girls basketball player and stellar student. The Kentucky Governor’s Scholar is also a track runner, co-president of the Pep Club and a piano player. When not hitting the books, court or keys, Tamme has volunteered as a page for the Kentucky Legislature, stage manager at West T. Hill Community Theater and student representative for ASAP Drug Free Community Coalition, among other positions.

He has made a visit to Oregon and had Florida, Kentucky, Louisville and Southern California coaches come to Danville to watch him play this season. He’s been to Florida and Kentucky for games, too. But Boyle County linebacker Lamar Dawson had a game last week against East Jessamine that should do even more to help his Mr. Football resume. He set a school record with 32 tackles. That’s right, 3-2. If that wasn’t enough, he had two tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one caused fumble.

Back in 2003, it wasn't nearly as good a year for the Lincoln County girls' basketball team, which bowed out in the district tournament. The boys' team, however, made it to the quarterfinals of regionals, where they lost to Mercer County. Along the way, they also lost the district championship by one point to Boyle County, who was led by none other than now-famous NFL tight end Jacob Tamme. Here's an excerpt from the boys' district championship story, which ran March 13, 2003:   Rebels rally to take away title Jacob Tamme didn't score any points at Lincoln County in the Patriots 72-60 win over Boyle County on Jan. 25. A broken wrist sidelined the senior.

If Rich Brooks wants to assure that he will still be coaching football at Kentucky next year, all he has to do is lead his team to a victory over Louisville Sunday night at Papa John's Stadium. Never mind that the Cardinals have the better defense, more explosive offense and have been nearly unbeatable at home in recent years. The Wildcats are supposed to be bigger, stronger and deeper. And they will be. But that still likely will not be enough against the Cardinals. Count me as a skeptic when it comes to quarterback Andre Woodson.

LEXINGTON - After a dominating spring practice, sophomore Jacob Tamme was supposed to be Kentucky's next star. The former Boyle County all-state receiver was touted not only as the player who would lead UK in receiving this year, but also as one of the best tight ends in the Southeastern Conference. Never mind that Tamme had played tight end one game - UK's 2004 season-ending loss at Tennessee - coming into the season. His strong play at Tennessee - four catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns - had Kentucky fans expecting gigantic production from him this season.

While she was training in Colorado for the Jennie Carol's Memorial Mother's Day 5K Run, Allison Tamme would often think about Jennie Tarter and her unexpected death in 2008 that led to friends starting this event in downtown Danville to honor her memory by raising money for BackPack Kids. “Training in Colorado is a whole different animal. The altitude and hills are no joke out there,” she said. “I would be tired and my ankle or knee would be hurting, but then I would think how she would love to be out running with her sons.
