Providence Baptist to host Octoberfest Providence Baptist Church, 6543 Old Boonesboro Road, will host Octoberfest today from noon to 6 p.m. Guest speakers include Linville Spangler, the Rev. Marvin King and Bobby Sharp. The First Baptist Church choir will perform, as well as Nate Jackson of Nashville and Words in Red. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. There will be food and games in between speakers and performers. Revival at Ruckerville Church of Christ Ruckerville Church of Christ, 3750 Old Ruckerville Road, will host a revival Oct. 24-26 at 7 nightly.

Amy Shannon Nestor, daughter of Kim and Linda Nestor of Louisville, became the bride of Paul Russell Hieb, son of Kenny and Susan Hieb of Louisville, in a double ring ceremony at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at Duncan Memorial Chapel in Crestwood. The bride is the granddaughter of Sylvia Hillard, Louisville, and the late Lloyd C. Hillard Sr. and the late A.C. and Madelyn Nestor, Winchester. The groom is the grandson of Larry and Dot Ladegast and the late Cal and Dorothy Hieb.

The George Rogers Clark baseball team honored its eight seniors and completed a regular-season sweep of Paris with a 7-2 victory over the Greyhounds Monday at Cardinal Field. Clark, which has won 14 of its last 19 games, defeated Paris 14-2 on April 10 in Paris and secured at least a second-place finish in the 40th District standings going into the final week of the regular season. The Cardinals paid tribute to seniors Logan McQuerry, Pokey Harris, Robert Hatler, Trevor Back, Dalton Ritchie, Wes Lawwill, Hunter Osborne and Taylor Howard before the game and Clark coach Matt Ginter used all eight players in the starting lineup.

Donna Allen Miller, 72, of Winchester, died peacefully at her home May 17, 2012. Donna was born April 23, 1940, in Jeffersontown, Ky. She lived in Winchester most of her life. She established a home accessory shop “It's A Keeper” in downtown Winchester in 1991, which she operated until her retirement in 2003.  She worked as social editor of the Winchester Sun, served as executive assistant of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce and director of High Hope Steeple Chase.  She was preceded in death by her parents James Bradley Allen and Emory Dale Inman Allen.  She is survived by her spouse of 25 years George Bruce Taylor Miller and six children; Annie (D.J.)

Winchester Police Department Officer Danny Dennis, along with law enforcement officers from 14 other agencies across the state, graduated recently from basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training. The 18 officers of Class 391 completed 18 weeks of training, which consisted of more than 750 hours, recruit-level-officer academy instruction. Major training areas included homeland security, law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms, investigations, first aid/CPR, patrol procedures, orientation for new law enforcement families, and mechanics of arrest, restraint and control.

Chrys Jones won three events and John McMaine won two to help the Mercer County boys roll to a victory in their own all-comers meet Tuesday at Harrodsburg. Mercer won eight of 18 boys events in the meet at Alvis Johnson Field, which attracted more than a dozen schools, including Class AAA teams from Lincoln County, Henry Clay and Madison Central and two Jefferson County schools, Jeffersontown and Southern. Jones won the triple jump, long jump and high jump to give Mercer 30 of its 119 points.

After bouncing back from a lopsided defeat to Henry Clay with an emotional win over rival Danville, Boyle County coach Chris Pardue knows his Rebels could easily have a letdown against Lafayette here Friday. "We do have to guard against a letdown. No question about that," said Pardue. "Our seniors have to know that and be leaders. It will be a challenge for us to shut down Lafayette. They have a really nice team. They are playing well and if we do have a letdown, we'll be in trouble.

Lincoln County's Noah Keeton has received honorable mention on The Courier-Journal's All-State boys' basketball team. Keeton, a senior guard who helped lead the Patriots to their second straight Sweet 16 appearance, took around 23 percent of Lincoln's shot attempts from the field this past season, averaging 17.4 points a game. He scored his 1,000th career point during the 45th District Tournament, Keeton shot around 47 percent from the field and had a team-best 75.7 percent at the foul line.

Jazz group to play Thursday Keith Hubbard and the Hubcats will perform 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Weisiger Park as part of the Whimsy in Weisiger summer entertainment series. Members of the group are Hubbard, Pat Dillon and Eben David Henson. Henson says Hubbard brings a technical mastery of the keyboard with an energetic and percussive style combined with a Dr. John-clone vocal style, while he tries to bring an understated funk groove to the ensemble. Library's audit open for viewing The Boyle County Public Library's 2004 financial audit is available for public viewing at the library's main desk.
