Hager, 43, 2835 Pollard Road, was arrested Sept. 7 on Sulphur Well Pike and charged with DUI. • Russell G. Brown, 40, 875 Chimney Rock Road, Harrodsburg, was arrested Sept. 10 at U.S. 68 and Bellerive Boulevard and charged with DUI.

Jessamine County Sheriff's Deputy Cecil Upton III was among the law enforcement officers from 22 agencies across the state graduated last Friday from basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond. The 28 officers of Class 427 completed 18 weeks of training, which consisted of more than 750 hours, recruit-level-officer academy instruction. Major training areas included homeland security, law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms, investigations, first aid/CPR, patrol procedures, orientation for new law enforcement families and mechanics of arrest, restraint and control.

Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Corman hosted his annual golf scramble at Lone Oak Golf Course Friday afternoon. The 1 p.m. shotgun start saw 25 4-person teams take to the greens to benefit the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch. Last year, more than 600 children from across the state went to the week-long camp. The amount raised from this year’s golf scramble was not immediately known as of Friday afternoon, Corman said.

Both East and West were ousted in the first round of district play on Monday night. East may have been playing at their home court but that didn't stop Lexington Christian from winning 2-0. The Eagles took the first set 25-16 and owned the second set 25-12. The Jags end the year 6-18 with two wins over rival West. West came up short against Lexington Catholic for the third time this season. The Knights won the first set 25-16 and the second 25-9. The Colts end the year 4-17.

Boy Scout Troop 707, based in Wilmore, celebrated the 100th anniversary of scouting this summer by camping at Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, Va., July 31 through Aug. 7. Twenty boys and seven adults went and had the trip of a lifetime. The group visited the National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill as well as Washington, D.C., Mount Vernon, Manassas Battlefield and several museums. The troop was treated to a morning of sailing on the Potomac River by Sea Scout Ship 7916/Woodbridge Sailing School and had a phenomenal experience in wilderness survival led by the United States Marines from Quantico.

Four Wilmore girls participated in the opening ceremony of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games on Saturday, Sept. 25. The four participates were Cassie Shearer and Haleigh Davis, both students at WJMS; and sisters Asriel and Mikiah Kerr, who are students at Wilmore Elementary. The girls auditioned and were chosen to participate with the Youth Performance Corps last May. In preparation for the games, they rehearsed over 70 hours at the UK campus and the Kentucky Horse Park outdoor arena.

Haylee Hamm, Sarah Rainwater, Heather Dennis and Haleigh Fain have found a home on the softball diamond in more ways than one. The four East Jessamine players have shared the field for years with their fathers: coaches Tom Hamm, Anthony Rainwater and Kevin Dennis; and scorekeeper Doug Fain. With Father's Day approaching, the dads and daughters sat down separately to discuss the tight-knit relationships that they have with each other. Finding home on the field Tom began coaching Haylee in the eighth grade, the latest of the coaching crew.

A homeowner's security alarm helped thwart a burglary Saturday morning at a home on Glass Mill Road in southwestern Jessamine County. James Hitch, 26, of Wilmore, was arrested after being discovered hiding in the attic. Jessamine County chief deputy Allen Peel said that minutes after receiveing the alarm call, deputy Harold Barlow was on scene, followed by Sgt. Andy Neyman, deputies Anthony Purcell, Jason Beale, and Carlton Gay and Wilmore police Sgt. Nelson Shrout. Jessamine County jailer Jon Sallee also assisted, Peel said.

MOUNT VERNON - There was no panic in this Boyle County team. The Rebels were too experienced, tough and resilient for that. After being stymied most of the game by East Jessamine pitcher Haylee Hamm, No. 12 Boyle found itself down two runs heading to the top of the sixth inning in Wednesday's 12th Region final at Rockcastle County. But the Boyle bats came alive at just the right time. Madison DeBord's three-run double gave the Rebels the lead for good as they hung on for a 5-3 win and their second straight regional title.

The body of a Jessamine County teen who drowned Wednesday in the Kentucky River was recovered around 9 p.m. Thursday. Jacob Mulcahy, 17, was swimming in the river with friends Wednesday afternoon by the boat dock off Ky. 39 when he went under around 1 p.m. Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes said there was no indication of trauma that could have contributed to the drowning. "It looks like just an accidental thing," he said. "According to the witnesses who were there, he just swam out too far and couldn't handle it. " Mulcahy was found 40 to 50 feet from where he was reported seen last in water about 15 feet deep, Jessamine County Fire chief Mike Rupard said.

MOUNT VERNON - This was the game Boyle County coach Brian Deem predicted back in the winter. He knew getting to Owensboro and the state softball tournament for the second straight year would probably mean having to meet East Jessamine at some point. “This has been a conversation we've had since February that the 12th was going to come down to East and Boyle,” Deem said. “And here we are, the 29th of May, we're going to find out who gets to go to Owensboro and who gets to go home.” The No. 12 Rebels (28-8)

MOUNT VERNON - It wasn't the ending they wanted, but the Garrard County softball team found something to build on this season. The Golden Lions fell to East Jessamine 10-2 Tuesday in the 12th Region Tournament semifinals at Rockcastle County. But a team full of freshmen and sophomores - Sydney Pozzuto was the only senior on the roster - saw a 24-win turnaround from last season and got a great glimpse at what the future holds. “Getting two wins last year to getting two games away from going to  state, that's a big turnaround,” Garrard coach Jeff Meadors said.

Cold and damp weather conditions have left many feeling frustrated this spring, but no one is pining for sunshine more than local farmers. The Lexington area has been hit with about 21.3 inches of precipitation so far this year, according to a National Weather Service representative. At this time last year, there had only been about 15.8 inches. Everything from crops to cattle are feeling the effects of the cool, wet weather, leaving many farmers to worry about their yield and revenue.

Curry Brown went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run and drove in three runs Monday to lead No. 13 Mercer County to a 7-4 win over Boyle County in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament at Rockcastle County. The Titans (25-9), who have won the regional the last two yers, face Wayne County (26-10) in today's 5:30 p.m. semifinal. In the other semifinals, No. 18 West Jessamine will play Southwestern. West Jessamine beat Danville 7-6 Monday after building a big lead in the first three innings.

The West Jessamine High School principal was demoted from that position last week, according to personnel actions obtained by The Journal through an open-records request. Ed Jones was suspended with pay April 29 and was no longer the principal of the school May 14. The personnel actions acknowledged by the Jessamine County Board of Education on Monday and obtained by The Journal on Thursday indicate Jones was demoted from principal to teacher May 14 and that he was transferred to a special assignment at central office May 15 for the remainder of the school year.
