A 7-year-old Boyle County girl decided she could boost the Danville Fire Department's Christmas toy drive with a little entrepreneurial effort. Hannah Robertson, daughter of David and Nancy Robertson, spent the summer creating and selling beaded jewelry in custom colors, and earmarked the proceeds for the fire department's annual effort to provide Christmas gifts to needy children in Boyle County. Thursday, the Woodlawn Elementary School student paid a surprise visit to Fire Chief Mike Thomas to donate the fruits of her labor - a check for $200.

Dear Dave, How do you balance a Christmas budget with all the stuff your kids want? Should you give them everything they want even if it means going beyond your pre-planned Christmas spending? This issue is causing some problems with my wife. Jim Dear Jim, I think the first thing you have to do is stop and ask yourself one important question - what is Christmas? If your definition is lots of stuff under the tree, then I think you've got a pretty bad definition of the day and the entire Christmas season.

HIGHLAND - Christmas was stolen from Lincoln County's Lewis family Thursday, but, through the kindness of kin and strangers, they are going to get it back. Someone kicked in the front door of Robert and Patty Lewis' home on Greasy Ridge Road while they were out. The thieves skipped over the usual booty like computers, stereos and a Play Station and grabbed only wrapped Christmas presents and all of Patty's jewelry. They also tried to take the family's 35-inch TV but dropped it in the front yard, breaking it. "The only things they took was the kids' Christmas presents under the tree, and they raided by jewelry box," Patty Lewis said this morning.
