The new Professionalism/Identification/Dress Codes Standards of Ephraim McDowell Health cover a lot of areas other than the attire that can be worn by employees. Rules pertaining to all employees, which are in effect for not only Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center but also Ephraim McDowell Health's clinics and most other facilities, also cover such things as: Identification - Badges with pictures and job titles "must be worn and visible. " Professionalism - It includes "body language, verbal language, voice tone, discussion topics and attitude.

There was plenty to please a plethora of visual arts tastes at the artists' reception earlier this month at the Community Arts Center. In the Grand Hall was Dan McGrath's "Quiet Places," a series of oil paintings about a variety of subjects. McGrath, a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, and the Plein Aire Painters of the Bluegrass, says he took up painting more seriously after he retired from IBM. Scenes from nature permeate his works.

A 70-year-old woman returned from a trip to Indiana to find an estimated $6,000 in gold and diamond jewelry stolen from her home, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department reported. The woman, who lives in the Moreland Community, also reported a knife collection missing. Deputies found no forced entry to the woman's home and continue to investigate. Anyone with knowledge about the robbery should call the sheriff. Law officers are also seeking information about the people who ran from two stolen pickups on New Year's Day. In a somewhat jumbled series of events, officers from multiple agencies recovered the two stolen trucks after responding to a report of a drunk driver on Highway 1770 in Crab Orchard.

MORELAND - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is investigating a burglary Sunday in which a resident reported thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen. Deputy Chad Smith said Marie Whitehouse reported that her Spring Valley Road home was burglarized while she was out of state. Smith said there was no forced entry. Almost $6,000 in gold and diamond jewelry, including necklaces and rings, were taken. The resident also reported a knife collection missing. Clarence Friend flips through an album, pausing to point out a caricature of Lyndon B. Johnson. His eye strays to the corner of the cartoon, where in fittingly artistic fashion, the signature "Friend" stamps the work. The entire album showcases the work of this 83-year-old Rose Mary C. Brooks Place resident. And it's only a tiny bit of it. Friend is retired from The Louisville Courier-Journal's art department, where he spent 41 years as a resident artist. He looks back at his life, where he is now, and everything in between, and calls himself a "mess.

"Jazz It Up with Jewelry" was the topic of the lesson at the May meeting of the First Settlers Homemakers Club held at the Community House on Old Boonesboro Road. Bonnie Hardy, lesson presenter, said many choices for jewelry are available on the market today, and when it comes down to it, the wearer should choose whatever makes her comfortable. Jewelry should be in proportion to a person's size. Tiny jewelry makes large people look larger, huge jewelry makes small people look smaller.

HARRODSBURG - Several pieces of jewelry were taken Monday in a burglary at a South Magnolia Street residence, police said. Joyce Murray of 131 S. Magnolia St. told police that someone took a wide-width wedding band, two pairs of gold earrings, one with pearl and the other with gold leaves and a gold bracelet. Patrolman Granville Peyton said the intruder kicked in the side door at the residence to gain entrance. Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact the Harrodsburg Police Department.
