The Lincoln County girls golf team sustained a tough loss last Thursday, bowing to host Rockcastle County at Cedar Rapids Country Club in Mt. Vernon. Rockcastle won the match with a 177, finishing 18 strokes ahead of Lincoln.  “We had a few holes get away from us today which we have avoided recently.” said Lincoln assistant coach Kevin Bandura. “Cedar Rapids is not an overly tough course if you stay in the fairway, but a wayward tee shot will always result in a big number and that happened a few times today.” The Lady Patriots' four-man score was 195. Kayla Upchurch led the team with a 45 and Kaycie Bandura posted her low round to date to step up and claim the two-spot with a 48. Gentry Lewis and Maggie Taylor rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 51. “I'm proud of Kaycie, that was her best 9-hole total of her career,” Bandura said of his daughter.

The University of Kentucky may have lost its Big Blue Crush blood drive competition with Tennessee last weekend 2,649 to 3,237 pints, but it wasn't for a lack of effort on the part of LCHS. Students, faculty and staff donated 82 points Friday afternoon in the school library. More than 100 registered to donate and were screened in seven hours; 82 successfully donated. There was rarely an open spot, and students and faculty were still lined up when the operation had to be shut down to get the blood into storage in a safe amount of time.
