Amir Williams, a 6-9, 210-pound center from Birmingham, Mich., says Kentucky “is recruiting me pretty heavy” and says he has definite interest in playing for coach John Calipari. “They have a great coaching staff. They know how to get and develop guys to get you ready for the league (NBA). I think it would be a great college to go to and a great coach to play for if that is what I decided,” said Williams, who is in San Antonio to try out for a spot on the 12-member team that will represent the United States at the eight-team FIBA Americas Under 18 Championship there June 26-30.

Billy Harrison: For Kentucky basketball the criticism is a lot. But on the other hand Florida lost and scored only 66 points. They have now lost two games. Ohio State lost to NC at NC where hardly anybody wins. Kansas has lost two games to not so great teams themselves. Kentucky is not the team they have been in the past but so far their schedule has been brutal. More so than Florida or Kansas. Winning games is the important thing. Running and gunning is exciting but losing those games is not a good thing.

Kentucky really needed to spend $880 million on courthouses. Why didn't we take another $1 billion and replace the other 55 courthouses? We needed that about like George Custer needed more indians. Jim Pyle Harrodsburg

Kentucky is so blessed to have so many wonderful places to visit. Spring break will be taking place soon, and I hope parents will take advantage of some of the historical sites in Kentucky and take their children for a visit. I am almost ashamed to admit that I had never visited the Mary Todd Lincoln home in Lexington until recently. It was a wonderful experience, and I learned things about Lincoln that I did not know. I saw furniture in the home I had not seen in other historical places.

To the voters of Boyle and Washington counties, please choose carefully who you vote for as our state representative. The incumbent, Mike Harmon, has not done a good job for either of our counties. To verify what I'm telling you, check his voting record online. He has sponsored bills yet has not had a single bill passed in his 10 years in office. His challenger, Barry Harmon, is an ordained minister with papers to prove it. I have known Barry Harmon all of his life. He is honest, hard-working and intelligent.

One of the primary political experts on the MSNBC's stage at Centre College during coverage of Thursday's vice presidential debate was making a return trip to the state where his career in journalism got its start. Howard Fineman, editorial director of Huffington Post and a frequent contributor to the cable network, got to know Kentucky politics during a stint with the Courier-Journal that started in 1973. Fineman became well versed in Kentucky's political culture before moving to Washington, D.C., to work in the newspaper's bureau there.

Ohio receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass has hinted that he might soon make a decision about where he'll play his college football, but Springfield coach Eric Gillespie doesn't think his star junior is quite ready to make that choice just yet. “I think he wants to make one (decision) before the season.¿I don't think one real soon, though, is likely,” the coach said. “He is one of these kids who loves Facebook, Twitter. He likes to banter back and forth with guys and fans. That's the world we live in. It's cool to say a decision might happen now, but I don't think he is quite ready to make a choice right now.” He has plenty of scholarship offers, including one from Kentucky, whenever he makes a decision.

Kentucky voters may have believed they were supporting gun rights for hunters when they overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the state constitution on Nov. 6, but in reality they were shooting a very important document full of holes. If the landslide vote to make hunting and fishing a constitutional right is any indication, very few people seem to understand the importance and weight of a document like a constitution. After centuries of freedom, it's obviously easy to take it for granted, but constitutions are what our freedom to do as we wish is built on. Constitutions are mentally hefty, philosophically profound documents that speak to the archetypal ideal that each person is created equal and should be treated with respect and dignity.

NEW ORLEANS - Kansas certainly has no argument with No. 1 Kentucky (37-2) being favored to win Monday's national championship game, especially since the Jayhawks remember how UK beat them 75-65 Nov. 15 in New York. “I think they're really talented. From every spot, they have guys that could be really effective, score a lot of points,” said Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor. “They create havoc defensively. When you talk about one through five, they probably got the best five, six, seven guys, on paper anyway.
