The West Jessamine boys' golf program is making a name for itself across the state and showing that the likes of KIT titles and state championships are no longer safe in the hands of private schools. At the Kentucky Invitational Tournament last weekend, the Colts defeated three-time KIT defending champion St. Xavier, which was going for its 20th KIT title overall. The win came in dramatic fashion as the two schools were tied at 298 after 18 holes and needed to go to a playoff to determine a winner.

Fred Allen Meyer was just a few days into his high school career when he won the prestigious KIT on Aug. 14. The 14-year-old freshman at West Jessamine High School shot a 2-under-par-70 at 47th annual Knights Travel Kentucky Invitational Tournament. Meyer had an eagle, five birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey at Nevel Meade Golf Course in Oldham County. Meyer played on the Colts varsity squad as a sixth grader. West Jessamine finished third overall with a score of 301, 11 strokes off the winner, St. Xavier who shot a tournament record 290. Your rods and reels are in pristine condition, right? They have new line on them and are just begging for you to take them to the water to catch a fish or two for supper, right? Sure they are. Have spiders closed up all the eyes on your rods to the point where you will have to take a brush to clear them out? Are your reels so gummed up that it sounds like a wagon wheel with no grease when you turn the handle? Well, not all of us are on the right page as far as keeping our fishing equipment in the best of condition for our next outing on the water.

Residents of Wilmore's Wesley Village Senior Living Community enjoy a wide variety of hobbies and interests from painting, knitting, golfing and photography to playing bridge and volunteering with the local Lions Club. But village resident Jim Floyd, 86, has a unique hobby that he's enjoyed for more than 50 years. He builds organs. "My mother was an organist, and that sort of prompted me in my early years to become interested," Jim said. "But my interest peaked in the middle of 1960 when ... a company in New York advertised a kit organ, so my first effort was to build a kit organ.
