Baker Storey McDonald, a Nashville-based property management company, has purchased the Kroger Plaza. According to the Nashville Business Journal, BSM acquired the property for $3.8 million, and plans to have 90 percent of the space leased by March. “They want to take the empty space they have and make it more viable to tenants,” said Todd Denham, director of the Winchester/Clark County Industrial Development Authority. BSM worked in conjunction with Bealls Outlet Stores Inc. to find a suitable location for a Burkes Outlet, which will occupy the old Goody's space, Denham said.

As Christmas approaches, one Winchester resident is spreading holiday cheer to animals in need. For the past six months, Terry Welch, of Lafayette Boulevard, has been going behind the Goodwill store to feed stray cats. He goes to the spot, located at the top of a hill and surrounded by shrubs, about twice a day, once in the early afternoon and once around dinner time. Welch said he began the practice after feeding a couple of cats behind Kroger for a while. “I just kept on coming back and before you know it, there were about 10 or 11 cats,” he said.

I tried grocery shopping in the Danville Walmart recently and only two lanes were open. There were at least eight customers in each line, and even the self checkout lanes were full. There are more than 20 lanes, so it's utterly ridiculous that only two were open. I left my cart, full of groceries, and informed the staff they would have to put them away because I could not be checked out in a timely manner. I spent nothing, and if I see the same conditions in the future, I will stop spending my hard-earned money in Walmart all together.

Jim Gage, who owns One Duck Farm LLC in Danville, said the sizable donation he and his wife, Sheree, make to Harvesting Hope each year is their way of embracing their community and of sharing from their good fortune. The couple moved here after selling a business in Arizona and right away began putting their energies into their new hometown, first by adding financial support to the new greenhouse project at Boyle County High School.
