It’s hard to beat a team three times in a season, but George Rogers Clark has already accomplished the feat against rival Montgomery County this season. However, in order to earn a return trip to the Girls Sweet Sixteen, the Lady Cardinals will have to defeat the Lady Indians for a fourth time this season. The two teams will meet for the 10th Region title at 2 p.m. today at Bourbon County High School. Although Clark was a favorite to return to the finals, the Lady Indians pulled off a mild surprise over Campbell County in the semifinals to earn their seventh straight appearance in the region finale.

The second time was the charm for George Rogers Clark. The Lady Cardinals made up for a 68-58 loss to Owensboro Catholic earlier this week with a 68-63 triumph over the Lady Aces in the finals of the National Guard Holiday Classic in Owensboro Thursday night. Clark (6-4) won all three games in the tournament, but lost to the hosts in a showcase opener Monday night. The Lady Cardinals defeated Henderson County, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic to win the title. “It was a great tournament for us, not only because we won, but also because we improved as a team each game,” Clark coach Scott True said.

The George Rogers Clark girls basketball team recovered from a disappointing 62-58 loss to Montgomery County on Friday night with a 68-60 triumph over Bourbon County Saturday night at Norton Gymnasium. The quick turnaround didn't gave the Lady Cardinals a opportunity to ponder the loss to the Lady Indians, a contest in which Clark led 29-5 in the second quarter, only to come up short down the stretch. This time, the Lady Cardinals withstood a rally by the opponent in the second half and held on down the stretch as members of the school's nine 10th¿Region championship teams watched from the stands.

BROOKSVILLE - The hits just keep coming for the George Rogers Clark High School softball team. The Lady Cardinals produced 11 hits, including a pair of home runs in a 9-0 shutout over Bracken County on Wednesday. The win was the sixth in a row for Clark, now 8-1 on the young season. The loss was Bracken's first of the year in six games. "We are just continuing to hit the ball," Clark coach Jackie McCloud said. "We are making the plays when we have to and we're getting the hits when we have to. " Morgan Woosley and Michelle Ladanyi went deep for Clark, but it was Woosley's dinger in the top of the second that sparked the Lady Cards' offensive attack.

PARIS - The George Rogers Clark girls basketball knows it can compete with Montgomery County but can't find a way to seal the deal. For the second time this season, the Lady Cardinals built a double-digit lead in the first half, only to falter down the stretch and come up short in a 68-52 loss to the Lady Indians in the finals of the 40th District Tournament Thursday night at Paris High School. “It was a 16-point deficit, but it was a lot tougher than that,” Clark coach Robbie Graham said afterward.
