Rachel Staub had six kills and three service aces Tuesday to lead Boyle County to a 25-22, 25-11 win over visiting Pulaski Southwestern. Boyle coach Dana Stigall said the Lady Rebels (14-10) bounced back for a decisive second-game victory after playing "flat" in the first game. "We decided to come back and really give a good showing in the second game," Stigall said.

LIBERTY - Casey's pitching and offense got untracked after a sluggish start and the Lady Rebels opened their season Monday with a 12-2 win over Campbellsville. Casey (1-0) spotted Campbellsville two runs in the first inning, then scored all 12 of its runs in a four-inning span. The game was stopped after six innings by the 10-run rule. "After we strated getting aggressive, I felt like we were able to take control of the ballgame," Casey coach Andy Stephens said. "We were able to finally get some runners on in the third.

Boyle County's offense broke through late in the game to lift the Lady Rebels to a 13-3 victory over Marion County Monday at Lebanon. Boyle (5-3) broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the fifth inning, then added two more in the sixth and another five in the seventh. The Lady Rebels got 16 hits, including three each by Kendra Ross and Sarah Cooley, and took advantage of five Marion errors. "Everybody down our lineup is hitting very well," Boyle coach Heather Oates said.

Casey County roughed up Lincoln on its own diamond Tuesday as the visiting Lady Rebels rolled 18-6 over the Lady Patriots. Casey (1-1) led the whole way, scoring in six of the seven innings played. The Lady Rebels opened up an 8-0 lead after four innings and, after a late Lincoln rally, capped off the victory with a nine-run seventh inning. Defensive mistakes proved costly for Lincoln (1-1) in its home opener as the Lady Patriots committed 12 errors and allowed  seven unearned runs.

LANCASTER — Defending 45th District champion Lincoln County won its postseason opener in matter-of-fact fashion, rolling over Boyle County 81-46 last night in a district tournament semifinal at Garrard Middle School. The Lady Patriots weren’t expected to have any trouble with the Lady Rebels after pounding them 65-44 and 74-39 in the regular season. And they didn’t. Lincoln exploded out to a 23-7 first-quarter lead and never looked back. A 47-16 cushion at the half gave it all the points it needed for the win. “I felt like the girls were very focused tonight,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said.

DANVILLE - The Lincoln County Lady Patriots enjoyed another happy ending to the 45th District Tournament. No. 1 seed Lincoln County walked away with its sixth straight district title Friday night by defeating host Boyle County 62-45 in the championship game. Senior forward Sydney Harris, who had 19 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots, helped lead Lincoln's sedate post-game celebration. “We like winning,” said Harris. “We've won (district) every year since I've been in the seventh grade, and we played to win tonight.” Lincoln (24-5)

Tori Alcorn scored 19 points and Allie Hafley added 18 to lead the Boyle County girls to a 57-50 win over Southwestern Thursday night at Somerset. Boyle coach Judie Mason said the Lady Rebels (17-8) outplayed Southwestern (16-9) in the second half to secure their sixth win in seven games. "Tori had several blocks and a lot of big rebounds in the second half and established an inside game, and then we (also) had an outside game," Mason said. "In the second half I thought we really came out with one of our better team efforts.

Boyle County kept Madison Southern within reach but scored in only one inning and saw its five-game winning streak end with a 4-3 loss Thursday at Berea. Boyle (6-4) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning but couldn't score again. Southern scored only single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth, but that was just enough. "Tonight we ran up against a very good offensive team and did the best we could to contain them, and I think we did a good job," Boyle coach Heather Oates said.

Boyle County stayed close in the first half before Mason County pulled away in the second for a 75-53 win in the seventh-place game at the Applebee's Winter Classic. Boyle (5-7) scored only six points in the third quarter, and a 9-0 run gave Mason (10-5) a 60-42 lead early in the fourth period. The Lady Colts' soccer team advanced to the region championship for the second year in a row after a 4-0 win over Boyle County last Thursday. “(Boyle) came out aggressive and put up a really good fight,” Maddye Hahn said. Like most athletes, the Lincoln County High School volleyball team is motivated by a desire to win each time it takes the floor. But the motivation ran a little deeper and a little more personal Monday night. The Lady Patriots dedicated their game with Boyle County to the memory of middle hitter Samantha Douglas' father, whose year-long battle with lymphoma ended at age 57 on May 10.  “My dad was a big fan of Lincoln County and he loved the rivalry between Lincoln and Boyle,” Douglas said of her dad who died four months to the day before the game.

By Nancy LeedyThe Lincoln County girls maintained their firm hold on No. 1 in the 45th District standings by collecting a second lopsided win over rival Boyle County.The Lady Patriots, who defeated Boyle by 51 points on Jan. 13, completed their sweep of the Lady Rebels in the first game of Friday night's doubleheader here as they cruised to another 51-point victory, 84-33.Lincoln (15-6, 4-0 district) took control in the first quarter, jumping out to a 21-10 lead. By halftime the Lady Patriots had increased the margin to 28 points, 47-19, and they never looked back.

The Lady Patriot volleyball team finished 2-2 in the Rockcastle Invitational at Mt. Vernon this past weekend, collecting wins over North Laurel and Boyle County. Lincoln (11-8) opened and closed the tournament with a “W,”  defeating North Laurel 2-1 in Friday's first round then closing with a 2-1 win over Boyle on Saturday. North Laurel (7-6) rebounded from a 21-15 loss in game one to capture the second game 21-16. It was a nip and tuck battle in the deciding game before Lincoln pulled out the 15-12 win. It was Lincoln pulling the game-two comeback in action with Boyle (4-16)

The East volleyball teams' struggles continue as the Lady Jags dropped their eighth match in a row Tuesday night. East lost to Casey County 2-0 (25-23, 25-20). The Lady Jags trailed in the first set by as many as eight at 16-8 before rallying to tie the game 22-22. However, Casey never let them take the lead and closed out the game to win by two. East used its late rally in the first set as momentum heading into the second set. It had several leads throughout, the largest being a 10-7 edge.

Junior KK Davis threw a no-hitter to help lead Boyle County to a 13-0 five-inning shutout over host Lincoln County Monday. “KK Davis is a great pitcher,” said Lincoln coach Kevin Bandura. “She does a great job of mixing up pitches – different speeds, different locations and a lot of spin on it. And it was obvious today. We had one ball we hit hard and it was right at somebody.” Davis fanned seven Lincoln batters and faced only one more than the minimum as Boyle improved to 20-7.

SOMERSET – The Lincoln County girls’ basketball season came to a heartbreaking end Monday as Casey County ousted the Lady Patriots 59-53 in the 12th Region Tournament opener at Pulaski County High School. “These girls wanted it so bad. They had something in their heart they wanted to prove,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said as she choked back tears. “Before this season, we had a lot of doubters. The kids knew that, and they stepped up this season and proved to people that Lincoln County basketball is still here.
