For 80 minutes, West Jessamine and Lafayette traded blows and yellow cards, but neither could sneak one into the net as both teams picked up their third draw of the season. For the Colts, it was their second in as many games. West was strong on the attack in the first half, getting several good looks at the goal but, General defenders always seemed to find their way between the ball and the net. “We just couldn’t find something. We lacked a little hunger in the box to find that finish,” West coach Nathan Andrews said.

Kentucky isn't changing its approach tonight. Although the Wildcats won't be playing a team ranked in the Top 25, the Wildcats will take on Lafayette in their home opener in a 7 p.m. tipoff tonight at Rupp Arena and won't be taking the Leopards lightly. “I feel like we should approach every game like it's one of our biggest games,” Mays said. “You don't ever want to let up on any opponent. My thing is approach every game like it's a Maryland or a Duke no matter the name of the team.” The Wildcats (1-1)

Boyle County has played its usual challenging schedule through its first five games. But Boyle coach Larry French said the Rebels will be facing the best offense they’ve played against Friday at Lafayette. “They’ve played a good schedule, and they’re pretty balanced in the run and the pass. They can do both pretty well,” French said. “Offensively, they’re probably the best team we’ve played so far. They’re big up front and they’ve got a lot of speed and skill people that can catch the football pretty well.

LEXINGTON¿ - Kentucky showed no signs of a hangover in its home opener Friday night. The Wildcats had two days to recover from a 75-68 loss to Duke earlier this week and were more than prepared to get back on the winning track. Lafayette wasn't your powerhouse opponent like, say. the Blue Devils and were missing their best player, but the Wildcats needed a feel-good offensive showing gong into the Thanksgiving holiday and delivered a much-needed knockout blow from the opening tip. Once Kentucky put the Leopards down, they stayed down and the ending result was an 101-49 blowout of the Leopards.

This wasn't a game the Danville girls would have won two years ago, or even last season. But this year, coach Judie Mason has the veterans to pull out a win when her team had its back to the wall. Down 11 points in the fourth quarter, the Admirals rallied to force overtime in their season opener Tuesday. They then rallied from three points down with 45 seconds left in overtime to edge visiting Lafayette 61-60. “Instead of them being freshmen and sophomores in that situation, they're juniors and seniors in that situation,”¿Mason said.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky was without point guard Ryan Harrow for the second straight game when it beat Lafayette 101-49 Friday. Before the game, the school released a statement noting that Harrow would not play and that his status was “day to day.” Kentucky coach John Calipari said there was “no update” other than Harrow was continuing to work out with the weight strength coach. Harrow, a sophomore, had flu-like symptoms before Kentucky opened the season and played only 10 minutes in the Nov. 9 opener against Maryland.

Just seven minutes into the game, though, lightning struck and suspended the game until it was finally called.

He became a General while he was still a Wildcat attending the University of Kentucky in the late 1990s. He spent seven years there as an assistant for Don Adkins before taking the head-coaching reins for the 2002-'03 season. Lafayette went 17-12 in Kelley's first season and was the runner-up in the 43rd District - they also posted a 53-52 win over West Jessamine. The 2008-'09 season would be Kelley's last in Lexington.

Wiltjer responded to Calipari's call by scoring a season-high 23 points Friday night in the Wildcats' 101-49 rout of Lafayette at Rupp Arena.

The Cardinals have a shot at securing a home playoff game with two district games remaining, starting with Friday's contest at Tates Creek. Clark also remains in contention for a possible top seed, if it can run the table in the district, along with a little help from the other three district teams during the next two weeks. “We take care of business this Friday and (then) against Madison Central, we're hosting a playoff game,” Clark coach Steven Collins said.
