When the West Jessamine boys basketball team takes the court this season to defend their 12th Region title and make another bid for a deep run in the Sweet Sixteen tournament, they'll be doing it with more changes than simply small personnel ones. The Colts do retain a major cog from last season's historic 28-9 season that culminated in a final four appearance at Rupp, in senior guard Jarrod Polson. But gone are contributors Nick Zieman, Jonathan Rehner and Randy Troyer. Another big change will be at the top post for the Colts.

The West Jessamine boys soccer team didn't have the same six-seed magic this season as they were bounced from the second round of the district tournament Tuesday night. The Colts fell 2-0 to Dunbar after dispatching Lafayette the night before, 5-0. Monday night, the Colts faced Lafayette, a club they did not face in the regular season. The original game was postponed and not replayed since the two clubs would have faced one another in the first round despite the outcome of that game.

The Boyle County girls aren't exactly where they want to be, but they believe they're close enough. The Rebels are rolling into the postseason with a five-game winning streak, capped by a 6-0 win over Lafayette in their regular-season finale Thursday night. "I definitely think we are starting to peak at the right time and putting ourselves in a position to do well in the postseason," said midfielder Courtney Hall, one of four players who scored in the season-ending win. No. 17 Boyle's last loss was to Tates Creek on Sept.

George Rogers Clark boys soccer coach Greg Dyk is ready for the postseason. The Cardinals (0-9-4) picked a little momentum this week following a pair of ties, including a 1-1 deadlock against Lafayette on senior night Thursday at the Cardinal Soccer Complex. Despite his team's winless campaign, Dyk likes his team's chances heading into Monday night's district opener against Bourbon County at the Cardinal Soccer Complex. The contest is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. "I told them (the players)

Boone Goldsmith got his first taste of the Boyle County-Lexington Catholic rivalry last year. However, the Boyle County quarterback will be making his first start against the Knights on Friday when the teams meet at Rebel Stadium in a key Class AAAA, District 6 showdown. "I know it is a great rivalry, and I am happy to be part of it," said Goldsmith, who threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns against Lafayette last week. "I just hope we can play like we have been.

George Rogers Clark football coach Paul Columbia would like to see a trend end in the Cardinals' district opener Friday night at Henry Clay. The Cardinals (3-3) are perfect at home, but have been the opposite on the road. All three of Clark's losses have occurred on the road and the opposition has outscored the Cards 109-31 in the three encounters. Scott County dealt Clark a 40-0 setback two weeks ago. "We've been up and down, but we need to string together a couple of wins," he said.

Finally it's fine for Boyle County to look ahead to its Class AAAA district showdown with Lexington Catholic. The unbeaten Rebels (6-0) dominated visiting Lafayette 48-6 here Friday behind the play of quarterback Boone Goldsmith and an inspired defense to set the stage for the key district game with Catholic here this week. "They are next, so I guess it is okay to talk about them now," said Boyle coach Larry French. "This was a good win to going into that game. We needed to play a team with speed that could throw the ball and they had both and we were up to the task.

Boyle County coach Larry French was not surprised when he heard Lafayette had beaten rival Henry Clay last week. "It did not surprise me at all. They have as much talent as anyone in the state," said French, whose 5-0 Rebels host the 4-2 Generals on Friday. "They have good, solid line play and play good hard defense, and they have outstanding skill people. " So French warns that the Generals should not be overlooked when they visit Rebel Stadium on Friday. Lafayette was coming off a 13-10 loss to George Rogers Clark before upending Henry Clay, Class AAAAAA's No. 7 team, last Friday.
