Wrapping up what its coach called “the best two weeks of football that we have played all year,” Centre College closed its season Saturday with a convincing 48-7 rout of LaGrange at Farris Stadium. Centre’s defensive secondary picked off four LaGrange passes and Jordan Albright returned a punt 52 yards for a score as the Colonels won their season finale for the 13th time in the past 15 years and clinched their fourth consecutive winning season. “Honestly, the way we played the last two weeks was as good as the top-25 team that I coached in the past,” Centre coach Andy Frye said.

A winning season may be the most important thing, but it isn’t the only thing Centre College is playing for in their season finale. The Colonels can secure their fourth straight winning record if they defeat LaGrange on Saturday at Farris Stadium, and they can also accomplish a few other things that coach Andy Frye said are almost as important. “One of the biggest things is you always want to end the season on a good note,” Frye said. “The second thing is we want to see improvement in all the things we started doing in the preseason.

LEXINGTON — It’s not hard for Mychal Bailey to describe what being eligible to play at the University of Kentucky means to him. “It is nice to be here. I was confident that I could put in the hard work to get here. You have to have hard work to get anywhere these days. I stayed focused and got it done,” said Bailey. He originally signed with Kentucky in 2007 after an all-state career at LaGrange, Ga., where he had 118 tackles, including 19 for loss and 11 quarterback sacks, his senior year.

LEXINGTON - Wide receiver Quentin McCord is proud that he started the pipeline from LaGrange, Ga., to Kentucky that has brought players like Wesley Woodyard, Braxton Kelley and Demoreo Ford to the Wildcats. "I love it. It seems like something I started because I was the first guy to come up here and now a lot have done that," said McCord, a former UK player who was a seventh-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2001. "It is a testament to what coach (Steve) Pardue is doing there to get those guys ready for the next level.

It's easy to assume that Qua Huzzie's decision to play his college football at Kentucky is just another part of the LaGrange, Ga., pipeline that started five years ago when Wesley Woodyard came north to play for the Wildcats. However, for Huzzie, playing for Kentucky is going to have an even more special significance. "I am the first person in my family to go to college. That's really a big thing with my family, and something I am very proud of," Huzzie said. "I am all set academically, too. I've always been smart.
