A Mercer County grand jury indicted three suspects in a rash of thefts from December. Sarah D. Towler, 24, Paul D. Brown, 32, and Sharon Brown, 28, all of Lancaster, were charged with two counts each of theft by unlawful taking of personal items, valued at more than $500 and less than $10,000, on Dec. 12. The three allegedly stole from Joseph Smith and William Ward. The thefts ranged from burglaries of businesses to car break ins, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office reported in December while asking for the public's help to find Towler and the Browns.

For the past 20 years, a group of men from Wilmore has donned their John Deere hats, khaki shorts, sneakers, button-up shirts and neckties each Fourth of July. Each year, they pull their lawn mowers from their gardening sheds and garages and decorate them with flags. And each year for the past two decades, with their practiced choreography and light-hearted marching and spirits, they’ve stepped onto Main Street in Wilmore and embraced their role as the “highlight” of the Festival of the Fourth parade.

Charged — Eric A. Gladson, 30, of 136 Abbeywood Court, was charged Sunday with violation of an emergency protective or domestic violence order, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, driving under the influence of intoxicants, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to notify state of address change. Reports — At 4:27 p.m. Thursday, Larry G. Lewis of 707 White Turley Road reported that someone entered his home and took a television and approximately six Lortab pills.

Charged — Derek R. Harris, 33, of 115 Center Drive, was charged Monday with theft by deception. — Jennifer Jarrett, 18, no address given, was charged Monday with theft by deception. — David L. Jones, 23, no address given, was charged Monday with theft by failure to make required disposition of property. Reports — At 2:38 p.m. Monday, a woman from 220 Jackson St. reported that she had been threatened. — At 3:44 p.m. Monday, a woman from 36 Elizabeth St. reported that someone broke into her home, killed her cat and stole several personal items.

HARRODSBURG — One Mercer County man remained in the hospital Saturday and another in jail after a pickup truck struck a riding lawn mower Thursday evening. Michael Moore was riding a Troy Bilt lawn mower in his yard along Bohon Road about 6 p.m. when Christopher Byrd, of Maple Street in Harrodsburg, struck him with his 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck, according to a Mercer County Sheriff’s Office press release. Moore suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he remained in “fair” condition Saturday afternoon.

JUNCTION CITY  — A Lincoln County man was killed Thursday evening as he was headed home from a convenience store and was struck by an SUV as he tried to cross U.S. 127. Bobby Henson, 77, who lived on U.S. 127 directly across from Don’s Market, had just bought a hamburger at the store and was walking home at 5:52 p.m. when he stepped into the path of the northbound Chevy Tahoe, Kentucky State Police said. Henson was taken to the emergency room of Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
