The Nicholasville Police Department is investigating a Lexington man it says stole $274,000 in campaign-contribution checks intended for the Democratic Governors Association. Michael Parker, 22, of 403 Hart Road, in Lexington was arrested Monday on a warrant by Jessamine County sheriff's deputy Gerald Wheeler and booked into the Jessamine County Detention Center, where he later bonded out that same day on an unsecured $10,000 bond, according to court records. He has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, more than $10,000, which is a Class C felony.

Minnie Geraldine Abney, 62, of Winchester, wife of John S. Abney, passed away Monday at the St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Jessamine County, Ky., she was born July 5, 1950, to the late Edward and Florence Cooper O'Mally. She was a member of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Samuel Maupin of Winchester and John (Teresa) Maupin of Winchester; daughter, Mary Ann Abney of Texas; brother, Claude Harris of Lexington; sister, Kathy Harris Gonzales of Lexington; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Pickett Stone, 85, widow of Leon Stone, died Saturday, Feb. 23. She was born May 5, 1927, in Lexington to the late Albert Thomas and Ruby Florence Howard Pickett. Dorothy was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, loved to fish and worked for GE for 37 years. Survivors are two sisters, Selah Collins and Vivian Capehart; two brothers, Harold and wife Barbara Pickett, and Paul and wife Carol Pickett; and other family members. Dorothy was cared for by Betts & West Funeral Home. There are no services.

Kenneth “Ken” Wesley Garrard, 53, of Lexington, went to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. Joseph Medical Center. He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Smith. A celebration of Kenneth's life will be 4 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at Broadway Baptist Church in Winchester. Smith and Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Marie Cosby, 94, of Lancaster, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Christian Care Center. Born April 8, 1918, in Garrard, Katherine was a daughter of the late William “Bit” Dennis and Edna Clark Dennis. She worked at the Palm Beach Factory, was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church and the widow of William “Pet” Cosby. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth “Babe” Huffman. Survivors include a great niece, Amber (David) Huffman Hruska of Lexington; and Rhonda Glaser (wife of nephew, the late James K. Huffman , Jr.)

Mary Ruth Speakes, 85, of Lexington, died, Friday, Feb. 15, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab Center in Lexington. Born July 10, 1927, in Paint Lick, Mary was a daughter of the late Ed and Ada Sparks Ballard. She was a nurse's aid and a member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Survivors include a son, Ed (Barbara) Tedrow of Lexington; brothers, Edward and Bobby Ballard of Lancaster; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several step children; and several nieces and nephews.

Marcus Dwayne "Mark" Denham, 60, of Stanford, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, at home. Born Sept. 24, 1952, in Stanford, Mark was a son of the late Lloyd and Lucille Young Denham. He was an auto salesman for 35 years having worked for Stuart Powell Ford in Danville, for 25 years. Mark was a former Lincoln County magistrate and a member of the Stanford Lion's Club, the Marine Corp League of Danville and Stanford Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; Ralph and Elwood "Woody" Denham.

Harry L. Kidd Jr., age 87, of Lexington, Ky., departed this life on Feb. 19, 2013, at St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born in Vienna, Va., on Oct. 8, 1925, to the late Harry L. Kidd Sr. and Maude Alford Kidd of Fairfax County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He graduated from Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky. in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He married Christine Beulah Hahn, a classmate, at Asbury on May 27, 1951. He felt a call to ministry, earning a Bachelor in Ministry degree from Westminster Seminary on May 22, 1956, while serving several churches.
