CRAB ORCHARD — An old barn-like structure on Elm Street that served as the site of occasional weekend auctions burned to the ground this morning. Lincoln County Fire Chief Danny Glass said the fire was under control before 9 a.m., but firefighters were still monitoring the scene. The cause of the blaze has not been determined, Glass said. “There’s pretty much not anything left of it. It’s completely destroyed,” said Frank Horton, a first-responder with Crab Orchard and former firefighter who had just returned from the fire at 9:30 a.m. “It’s still pretty hot. They’ll probably wait until after dinner before they go back and see what caused it.” A dispatcher at the Bluegrass 911 Center said the fire was reported at 5:57 a.m., radioed in by Crab Orchard firefighter Kenny Price, who lives nearby.

McNew got a smile out of King by reminding his pitcher of a mound visit during their first season, and King got the final out in Lincoln's 5-4 victory over Washington County.

STANFORD - Baseball fans had to do a double take when they looked at the scoreboard Monday after Lincoln pinch hitter Tyler Poynter banged out a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Was the scoreboard correct? Had the Patriots actually battled their way back from an 11-1 deficit to challenge Somerset 11-10? The answer to both questions was yes. Lincoln had almost erased the 10-run deficit with nine runs over the fifth and sixth innings, however, the Patriots came up short in the rally effort, falling 13-10 to the visiting Briar Jumpers.
