As heat and dry conditions bake the Bluegrass, Lincoln County, along with nearly the entire state of Kentucky, has been classified by weather officials as being in drought. The cities of Stanford and Hustonville have issued burn and fireworks bans that are in effect until further notice. Temperatures reached triple digits Thursday and were expected to make it there again today and Saturday. After an expected high of around 98 on Monday, weather forecasts predict a relative cooldown, as highs dip into the lower 90s. Lincoln County Judge-Executive Jim Adams said when he talked to the state Forestry Department on Tuesday they did not think a burn ban was necessary for Lincoln County yet. He plans to talk with them again today, but said he's hopeful he can hold off on a county-wide burn ban until after the Independence Day holiday.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - A pair of suspicious fires that destroyed two trailer homes Sept. 21 in Lincoln County are being investigated as arsons. Lincoln County Fire Chief Danny Glass said the homes on Ky. 501 had just been fixed up by their owner, Kendall Johnson, who was preparing to rent them out. “Both of them apparently caught fire the same morning, which is what makes it suspicious,” Glass said. There was no power running to either of the structures, making the fires even more unlikely to occur without instigation, he added.

Victims in several counties, including Jessamine, are continuing to come forward with claims that a Lincoln County man arrested Tuesday took money after promising to repair their roofs but never showed up to do the work. Randal Lee Long, 27, of Stanford was arrested by Stanford Police Department while he was hiding in the attic of a house Tuesday night. Lincoln Sheriff Curt Folger said Long had fled from authorities in Russell County earlier in the week and police had been on the lookout for him. Long was indicted Aug. 16 in Boyle Circuit Court on three felony counts of failure to make required disposition, for allegedly taking between $500 and $10,000 from Boyle County residents and another misdemeanor charge of taking less than $500.

Lincoln County Fire Chief Danny Glass announced today that Lincoln County is now under burn and fireworks bans until further notice. The fireworks bans includes those with licenses for setting off fireworks, which means as long as the ban remains in place the Lincoln County Fair will not feature its traditional July 4 fireworks show. "We've been holding off as long as we could," Glass said. "We really hate to spoil anyone's fireworks. " If rain hits Lincoln County, it's possible the bans could be lifted, allowing the big fireworks show to go forward.

November is Native American heritage month and as residents of Lincoln County we have been endowed a rich American Indian history. It is the story of the clash between two nations: the gritty and fiercely defiant long hunter and pioneer family, and the bold, brave warriors and tribal villages defending the lands of their ancestors. It is a story of the fateful conflict of differing dreams and principles of many peoples, upon which hinged the fate of our Kentucky Commonwealth and a developing nation.

STANFORD - Lincoln County Fiscal Court moved forward Tuesday with a plan to change how residents fund area 911 service. Magistrates unanimously passed the first reading of an ordinance that would remove a $3 monthly surcharge currently put on all Lincoln County landline phone bills and replace it with a $2.50 surcharge on all water meters in the county.
