MOUNT VERNON - The Lincoln County girls' basketball team picked up its second big road win of the week Friday night, handily defeating Rockcastle County 68-35 at Rock Arena. Lincoln fell behind to start the game, but senior Kourtney Belcher sparked a 16-4 run with a steal and a basket that would eventually earn the Lady Patriots the lead - one which they would never relinquish. “I thought we did a good job. From top-to-bottom, everybody that played tonight contributed in some way,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said.

HUSTONVILLE — Paul Isaacs had been working on his dream home for more than two years. It went up in flames this morning before he ever got a chance to live in it. The home on Ky. 78 between Hustonville and Stanford was completely destroyed by a fire that was reported just after midnight and had fully engulfed the structure by the time firefighters arrived, said Lincoln County Fire Chief Danny Glass. The fire is considered suspicious because electricity had not yet been connected to the house, Glass said this morning.

The Lincoln County boys basketball team will tip off the 2012-13 season Nov. 27 night with a relatively young and inexperienced team taking the hardwood. The Patriots return 11 players from last year's 19-14 squad, but only three have significant varsity experience and only two of the three are returning starters. “We're going to get better as the year goes on, but we've got a lot of work to do,” Lincoln coach Jeff Jackson said. “Last night (scrimmage at Oldham County) we started four sophomores and a junior, and brought a sophomore and junior off the bench.

And she was right. The 11th-ranked Lady Patriots led most of the first half in Monday's first round and had a seven-point lead in the third quarter, but the 10th-ranked Lady Bruins cut the margin down to two by the end of the third and were able to pull away in the fourth for a 62-57 win at Lexington Catholic's Alumni Gym. “They are a good team. That's why they're a top 10 team in the state. We knew it was going to be a battle coming into the game. We knew it was going to be physical, that they were going to get after it. And they did,” McWhorter said.
