Jessica Upchurch and Kendra Brown led Lincoln with 12 points apiece as the Lady Patriots beat Southwestern 44-38 Friday at LCHS. "It was a hard-fought defensive game, but it wasn't very pretty," said Lincoln coach Don Story. "I just didn't feel like the quality of play was as good as it should have been. " Play was close throughout, with Lincoln showing a 10-7 advantage after the first and a 20-18 lead at the half. The Lady Pats led 29-25 after three periods of play and edged out Southwestern 15-13 in the fourth to seal the win. Alissa Patterson and Savannah Lane each hit two free throws down the stretch to help hold Southwestern at bay. Lincoln shot 42 percent for the game, going 17 of 41 from the floor.

STANFORD - The Lincoln County girls scored only seven points in the first half but picked up the pace in the second to defeat Somerset 48-41 Monday night. Megan Pitts scored 12 points and Jenny Jones added 11 to lead host Lincoln (5-12), which trailed 14-7 at halftime but outscored Somerset 18-12 in the third quarter and 23-15 in the fourth. A 3-point goal by Pitts was the only field goal of the first half for the Lady Patriots, who also hit four of six free throws. Pitts went on to go 7-for-8 at the free-throw line, while Jones was 5-for-7.

CORBIN - The Lincoln County girls fell behind by 12 points at the half Monday and went on to drop a 66-56 decision to Corbin. Megan Pitts went 8-for-18 from the floor and scored a game-high 22 points to go with her six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal for the Patriots (10-12). Jenny Ralston had 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist. Jenny Jones had eight points and three rebounds and Lindsey Long had six boards for Lincoln. Lincoln trailed 33-21 at the half and Corbin built its lead to 50-32 heading to the fourth quarter.

WAYNESBURG - Amy Bender, 26, was found unresponsive at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at her residence on Ky. 1247, state police said. Bender was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m. by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Shane Young. An autopsy was conducted, and results will be available in about six weeks. The cause of death has not been determined. State police are investigating.
