When students in Jessamine County schools went to the lunch room last Friday, they traveled about the same distance they do every day. The food they consumed had a much shorter trip than usual. The district hosted its first “Farm to School” lunch day, with menus across the district featuring Kentucky Proud products from local vendors. Meat, lettuce and apples all came from state producers. “It's so much healthier for the children, because the food is fresh,” said Karen Barden, district food-service director.
