To the editor, We would like to personally thank the District 5 magistrate, Burch Hager, for his hard work and commitment to the residents of Adena Lane in Nicholasville. He visited the residents of Adena Lane when he originally ran for the position. At that time, we shared with him our concerns about the poor road conditions and long-overdue need for county assistance. Hager heard our concerns clearly and promised to be an advocate for our needs if he were elected to the magistrate position.

Eight more people in Lincoln County have filed papers declaring their candidacy for county offices subject to the Mary Primary, according to records in the county clerk's office. Charles H. Gray, 63, of 142 Lancaster St., Crab Orchard, who had registered earlier as candidate for constable in the 3rd District, apparently was in the wrong district. Current records show he is seeking the office in the 2nd District. Curt Folger, 48, a Republican, of 822 Martin Trail, Stanford, has filed as candidate for sheriff.

LIBERTY - Casey County Clerk Eva S. Miller will retain her position another term. The recount of votes this morning showed she won the election over her opponent Casey Davis by seven votes. She received 2,219 votes to Davis' 2,212. Davis, a deputy circuit court clerk, requested the recount last week after the votes showed the close margin. In Garrard County, totals were unchanged after recanvasses were conducted Thursday. David Wilson remained ahead of incumbent E.J. Hasty by 19 votes in the Democratic primary for judge-executive, and in the Democratic primary for District 3 magistrate, incumbent Walter Hester defeated Larry Donnell by one vote.

Dear Editor, I believe Steve Criswell would make a good magistrate for District 2 around Junction City. Dale Walls was one of the best mayors we've ever had. Dale is running for city council this year. I believe with Ron Pemberton as mayor, Steve Criswell as magistrate and Dale as councilman, new ideas can be implemented and used to solve some of the problems in Junction City. Lights in the cemetery to come on at night. Sidewalks beyond White Oak Road on Ky. 300 for the safety of residents to walk to town.

Dear Editor, To question Sheriff Hardin about a $26 oil change is a slap in the face to a man the citizens of Boyle County elected to protect them. If a magistrate thinks that Sheriff Hardin isn't smart enough to make a decision on when to do upkeep and maintenance on a cruiser, then we have a problem. Either Sheriff Hardin needs to leave or perhaps a magistrate needs to find himself other fish to fry and let the ELECTED sheriff do his job. Please don't waste the time of the employees of the courthouse researching to see what can be done about this situation.

Dear Editor, Phil Sammons is a magistrate who has represented the 3rd District well these past seven years and four months. He always votes the way that helps all the people, not just a select group. If you have a problem, Phil will help and not wait about doing it. I know personally about a traffic problem that happened one morning and Phil was called. He had it taken care of that day. I think to be a good magistrate you must have an open mind, work hard, and vote for whatever helps the majority of the people.

Sixth District Magistrate Duane McCuddy submitted his resignation during Tuesday's Jessamine County Fiscal Court meeting in order to accept the position as parks and recreation director. According to Judge-Executive Neal Cassity, Gov. Steve Beshear is responsible for appointing someone to serve out McCuddy's term, which goes through 2010. Cassity said there is no timetable on when the governor will appoint McCuddy's replacement, but expects that it will happen soon. Losing McCuddy's experience on the fiscal court will create a void, Cassity said.
