John Edward Hager, 90, of Winchester, husband for 44 years to Dorothy Rupard Hager, passed away Monday at his home. A native of Nicholasville, he was the son of the late Louis and Louvania Rakin Hager. He was a member of the First Christian Church and retired from Fansteel V. R. Wesson Company in Lexington. He was a farmer, and a United States Army veteran. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one stepson, Robert W. Thompson; two stepdaughters, Vickie Lynn Ellis and Dr. Linda T. Olberding; brother, Charles F. Hager; two nieces, Mrs. Charles E. (Janet)

Kenny Creech, 17, of McKinney, died Thursday, July 5, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Born Nov. 7, 1994, in Danville, Kenny was the son of Glenda Staton of McKinney and Luther Creech of Lancaster. He had finished his junior year and was getting ready for his senior year at Fort Logan High School. Kenny enjoyed riding his dirt bike and skateboarding. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Victor Staton; and two uncles, Larry and Ryan Staton.

Lee Roy Wilcher, 84, of McKinney, died Thursday, June 21 in Danville. Born July 15, 1927, in Lincoln County, Lee Roy was a son of the late Lucien and Myrtle Wilcher. He was a veteran of the Korean War, an employee of the old state hospital in Danville, retired from Eastern State Hospital in Lexington and a member of the Green River Pentecostal Church. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace, Lewis and J.B. Wilcher. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Alma Lay Wilcher; two sons, Jackie Wilcher and Terry (Michelle)

McKINNEY - A historical marker will be placed at 11 a.m. Saturday at the site in Lincoln County where a B-58 Air Force bomber crashed in December 1966 and took the lives of three men. The marker ceremony will take place at the site on the Wendell Smith farm at 489 Short Pike, off Ky. 198 south of McKinney, according to Chris Bennett. Bennett and Alan Reed, both of Columbia, were instrumental in a fundraiser to secure the roadside marker. Speakers will include Becky Riddle, historical marker program coordinator with the Kentucky Historical Society, and Darrell Hives and the Rev. Donald Scaly, who will give personal accounts of the crash.

Spencer McKinney of Danville won a two-day tournament on the Musselman-Dunne Golf Tour on Saturday, winning by six strokes in the 13-14 boys division at Long Run Golf Course in Louisville. McKinney shot a final-round 76 after opening with a 73 on Friday to finish 5 over par. Earlier last week, three Danville golfers finished in the top 25 in the first of national junior golf tournaments run by the PGA of America. Playing at Kearney Hill Golf links in Lexington, J.B. Williams tied for 18th place with rounds of 76-78-71 - 225, Andrew McKinney (77-71-80 - 228)

Leon “Buck” Gooch, 69, of McKinney, died Monday, May 21 at his home. Born Jan. 7, 1943, in Kings Mountain, Leon was a son of the late Lena Gooch. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Davis H. Elliott Electrical Company and a member of Geneva Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Eva Yocum Gooch of McKinney; one son, William “Bill” Gooch of McKinney; two daughters, Margaret Gooch and Lisa (Otis “Bubba”) Wilham of McKinney; one brother, Bobby Gooch of Kings Mountain; one sister, Vangie Gastineau of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Cody Crowley and Sondra and James Wilham; and several nieces and nephews.

Danville's Andrew McKinney shot a 75 Tuesday at Bowling Green Country Club and qualified for this year's Kentucky State Amateur. McKinney, who will be a junior at Danville this coming season, tied for fourth with Cameron¿beal of Bowling Green and Brandon Beckham of Smiths Grove. He was four shots back of winner Kyle Shirley of Scottsville. Finishing second with a 73 was Michael Tooley of Bowling Green, followed by Kyle Overby of Providence with a 74. Danville Country Club will host a qualifying tournament on June 11. The Kentucky State Amateur championship is next month at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville.

Andrew McKinney of Danville missed the cut Saturday after shooting 77-80 - 157 in the first two rounds of the TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Junior at Palm Harbor, Fla. McKinney shot 73 on Wednesday in the qualifying rouind for the American Junior Golf Association¿event at Copperhead Golf Course at Innisbrook, which host the PGA's Transitions tournament. McKinney was tied for 49th place after the first round and was tied for 83rd place after the second round of the 54-hole tourney. He missed the cut by two strokes.
