HARRODSBURG - A decision by city government here will make it possible for City Hall to have a permanent, automatic audio system in the second-floor meeting room. Having received complaints about people's inability to hear when the room is full during meetings of the Greater Harrodsburg/Mercer County Planning and Zoning Commission, the panel's executive director, Shawn Moore, set about trying to find a way to enhance the audio part of the meetings. City Commission meetings in that room are recorded and broadcast on the local cable company's public access channel.

Donna Forgacs can hardly wait to use the state-of-the-art kitchen at Boyle County's new $1.41 million cooperative extension service office. "It's going to be like Christmas," said Forgacs, the family and consumer sciences agent since 1993. "Instead of one kitchen and one range, we have three where people can learn and get hands-on instruction in preparing food. "Most of us learn by doing. We're really excited to have this type of kitchen. " After six years of planning, the extension service has moved into the 10,800-square-foot facility that has three times more room than its old location on the bypass.

Dear Editor, Recent children's programs at the Boyle County Public Library have grown so much that the number of children wanting to attend them has exceeded what the library's meeting room can safely accommodate. The library thanks the West T. Hill Community Theatre for offering its facilities for those programs attracting more children than the present room allows. Until the completion of the library's expansion provides a place for larger crowds to gather, the library will issue tickets for attendance, duplicate programs if possible, and impose on the generosity of the WTH Community Theatre.

The entire nine-member panel met March 8 to review 12 candidates for the vacant city manager position and selected four as their top choices. An Advocate-Messenger reporter was waiting during the entire meeting and was invited back into the room. Committee members explained they voted unanimously on the four candidates, a fact which City Commissioner Gail Louis later disputed to two Advocate-Messenger reporters as well as publicly during recent City Commission meetings.

Improve patron courtesy Dear Editor, I can't speak for other people in the community, but I find it annoying when I patronize a local business and the owner or employees are talking on the phone and don't stop. Unless the phone call is an emergency, I believe they should at least put the phone down or let the people they are talking to know they will call them back. After all, I'm spending my money and paying their salary, and that would be a small price to pay while waiting on me. Glenn A.
