Mercer has already doubled its win total from last season and is off to its first 2-0 start in three years, but coach Bill Mason said the Titans are staying “pretty well grounded.” Mason said the Titans will face their toughest test yet when they return to Henry Clay on Friday to play Lafayette. “We are excited, yet grounded,” Mason said. “I do believe Lafayette will be our toughest test to date.

HARRODSBURG — When Mercer County holds on to the ball, coach Bill Mason says the Titans are a much better team. But they “lost the turnover battle,” and that proved costly in last Friday’s loss to Lafayette. Mason said the Titans can’t afford the same mistakes Friday in their home opener against Anderson County. “We fumbled four times and lost two and had two interceptions. We did a nice job of limiting their offensive play (only 33 plays)

HARRODSBURG - The Mercer County volleyball players know that what they did Tuesday night won't mean a thing this time next week. But for the time being, it goes down as perhaps their program's greatest accomplishment. Mercer's first victory over crosstown rival Harrodsburg was a milestone for a still-growing program, cause for celebration for the seniors who had waited four years for it and a source of confidence that can be tapped in the event the two teams meet again in the postseason.

HARRODSBURG - The faces of the Danville girls really did tell the story of this game, but you had to take more than one look. There were some sullen looks early in the game, when things weren't going as well as they expected. But those same faces were beaming by the end of the evening. Once the Admirals got untracked, they had plenty to smile about as they rolled to a 5-0 win over Mercer County Thursday night at King Middle School. It was the third shutout in as many games this season for Danville, which has kept nine of its last 11 opponents off the scoreboard.
