There was a time he was indicating he knew where he wanted to play his college basketball, but Huntsville, Ala., shooting guard Trevor Lacey says today he’s still not sure where he’ll play next year. “I am really uncertain about what to do,” said Lacey. “But there is no need to rush now. My friends leave me alone and don’t even say much any more about where I am going because they know I have not decided.” He has plenty of options. Kentucky has been high on his list for months.

Just in case anyone thought Kentucky coach John Calipari was going to back down from his recent comments where he indicated Kentucky was the only basketball team in Kentucky, think again. His comment naturally delighted UK¿fans and had Louisville fans and coach Rick Pitino seeing red. Pitino even blasted Calipari for his remarks and one Louisville newspaper columnist accused Calipari of being jealous of Pitino's national championship and NCAA Tournament success. Given a chance to tone down, or take back, his remark at Kentucky's Media Day on Thursday in front of state and national media members, Calipari didn't budge.

Despite Kentucky’s loss at Alabama Tuesday night, ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale says no one should be disappointed by what the Wildcats have done this year. The No. 12 Wildcats are 14-4 — 2-2 in Southeastern Conference play — heading into Saturday night’s game at South Carolina. UK is 0-2 in SEC road games. “When you look at Kentucky, it has been a rollercoaster ride and probably will continue to be one. With all the new players he has, it’s really a hard thing to keep winning at the level John (Calipari)

Kyle Wiltjer knows winning the 3-point shooting contest at the McDonald’s All-American Game verified just how well he could shoot, especially for a 6-10 forward. However, the University of Kentucky signee had no idea he was the first future Wildcat ever to win that contest. “I did not know that,” Wiltjer said when told about it Tuesday night during a telephone interview after practice for Saturday’s Nike Hoop Summit. “I knew I could win it. I practiced with my trainer getting a lot of shots up, went in with an open mind and it was just an honor to be in it. It shows that I am a good shooter and be the 3-point champion at the McDonald’s game was a great honor,” Wiltjer said.

Maybe high school all-star games have no bearing on what type of college career a player might have. Still, what Kentucky signee Anthony Davis has done in three prestigious games — the McDonald’s All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit and Jordan Brand Classic — certainly has verified why he’s one of the nation’s top five prep players. Of course, many still consider him the best player in the 2011 signing class — one reason some mock drafts have already projected him as the first pick in the 2012 NBA draft.

LEXINGTON — Questions continue to arise about whether Kentucky will have enough depth or too much depth next season after the departure of Brandon Knight and DeAndre Liggins for the NBA and the return of Terrence Jones after the Wildcats went to the Final Four last year with basically a six-player rotation. Senior starters Darius Miller and sophomore Doron Lamb will be back. Senior Eloy Vargas, junior  Jon Hood and sophomores Stacey Poole Jr. and Jared Polson will be back. Mississippi State transfer Twany Beckham will be eligible the second semester.

LEXINGTON - When Kentucky players came out for their pregame shootaround Wednesday before playing Eastern Michigan, there was a familiar face with them - Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. He had a night off from playing with the Charlotte Bobcats and came back to see UK play for the first time since he helped the Wildcats win the national title last year and was the second overall pick in the draft. He joked with UK assistant coaches and hugged various players as they came over to see him. He sat on the bench for most of the pregame warmups and then was on the front row to watch the game.

NEW ORLEANS - When he was coaching at Memphis, John Calipari had one of the nation's premier players in current NBA star Derrick Rose. Now the Kentucky coach says there is one big similarity with UK freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. “He's like Derrick Rose in that he is harder on himself than anybody could be on him. I'll give you an example. After yesterday's game, he was like despondent, down. What? When I came to talk to you all, all you could talk about was the five points he got on his own to break open the game,” said Calipari Sunday.

NEW ORLEANS - If Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is hurting, he's not telling anyone. The Kentucky freshman took a hard spill late in the second half of Saturday's 69-61 win over Louisville and an initial report on CBS-TV said he would not be back because of a quadricep injury. However, he was back on the court for the end and smiling and celebrating the win that put UK¿into Monday's national title game. “It is all good,”¿Kidd-Gilchrist said. “I did not hurt nothing. It is all good.
