The Centre College softball team rolled up 23 runs to sweep a doubleheader from Midway on Wednesday, winning 10-2 and 13-5. Centre (3-1) overcame a 2-0 deficit in the first game, scoring four times in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead that was never threatened. Sophomore Marjorie Pilkinton and freshman Leah Tufts homered for the Colonels, who had 12 hits but left only three runners on base. Winning pitcher Erin Grumley allowed only four hits. The Colonels picked up where they left off in the second game, scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning.

LEXINGTON - Centre College finished third in the Transylvania Invitational by beating Midway 68-59 in the consolation game Saturday. Centre (3-5) shot 55 percent for the game and coach Jennifer Ruff said she was pleased with her team's play. "We did a nice job of really executing and getting good shots in our offense," Ruff said. The Colonels finished the game 25-of-45, while Midway was 20-for-56 for 35.7 percent. Centre won the rebounding battle 33-28 with Virginia Lowery and guard Casey Geiman each grabbing six. Mary Klee led the way with 14 points, Chelsea Wessel added 12 and Liz Braun scored 10.

Plans for a trip to Midway were finalized at the March 13 potluck luncheon meeting of the JOY/XYZ Group of First United Methodist Church, held in the fellowship hall at the church. The group will visit Midway on April 27 and have lunch at The Court Caf. Alice Tucker was recognized for having a March birthday, and the table blessing was given by Bibby Anderson. Present were Dorothy Foster, Ethel Vance, Beunice Roberts, Agnes Lowry, Alice Tucker, Mary Rowe, Hazel May, Boo Baldwin and Bibby Anderson.

The Asbury softball team earned a split with Midway at home Monday to keep the club clipping along with a .500 record. The club lost the first game, 2-1, but got the win in game two, 4-2. The Eagles (7-7, 2-2 KIAC) couldn't take advantage of Carrie Wilderman's seven innings and 2-run performance. Wilderman allowed five hits while walking one and striking out a batter. Stephanie Wade scored Asbury's run after doubling to lead off the fourth inning. Ethington drove her home with a base hit. Wade finished the game with a pair of doubles.

MIDWAY - Kids can celebrate spring April 19 with the Holly Hill Inn and Old Friends at a Children's Brunch with Old Friends. This special brunch at Holly Hill Inn for children ages 3-10 (moms and dads, too!) features games, a cupcake walk, carrot throw, crafts, a book signing and reading by the authors of "Skipingo Home: A Thoroughbred's Second Chance," as well as a tour of Old Friends, a facility for retired thoroughbreds in nearby Georgetown. "SkipingoHome" is an illustrated story about a thoroughbred named Skipingo, who is a full brother to racing champion Skip Away.

Nat Henton's annual shrimp harvest celebration will be 3:30-8 p.m. Sunday at Henton Farm in Woodford County. Attendees will be able to purchase shrimp to take home; bring a cooler. Cost is $10 a pound. A Shrimp Boil Supper, prepared by Holly Hill Inn of Midway, also will be held. A bluegrass music and cash bar with white wine and beer will be available. Natalie Osterman of Waynesburg and Graham A. Wolfram of Midway were united in marriage on Nov. 12, 2005 at the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Versailles with Jon Martin performing the ceremony. Jessica Day of Lexington served the bride as maid of honor and Andy Rehm of Saratoga Springs, NY., served the groom as best man. Maeve Marshall was chosen as flower girl and Brendan Osterman as ring bearer. The wedding party enjoyed a reception held at the Spring Valley Golf and Country Club in Lexington.

Creath Alexander Rankin,76, died Monday, April 2, at his home. He was a retired truck driver and tree maintainance worker for several years. He was born March 19, 1937, in Midway to Allie and Bissie Green Rankin. He is survived by his wife, Flora; sons Alexander Rankin and Bobby Leon Rankin; daughter Connie Jane Niceley; grandchildren Mickey Darrell Crawford, Crystal Steele, Shannon Nicholson and Alexander Creath Rankin; great-grandchildren Brooklyn Smith, Kolbee Crawford, Brianna Smith, Trevor Nicholson, Kaitlin Smith, Hannah Smith, Jacob Nicholson, William Nicholson and Kaleb Crawford; and several nieces and nephews.
