If you're going to be shopping this week, make sure you plan ahead and take coupons. Of course, it's always cheaper to simply not spend money. If something is 30 percent off the regular price, you're still paying real money out of your pocket to cover the difference. However, there are times when you know you are planning to shop, so you are doing the smart thing then by printing or finding a store coupon. Most stores want you to spend your money at their locations - both online and in-store.

Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham and Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner hope to get 2012 off to a great start. Saturday, community members are invited to do their part by attending a special prayer service, focusing on government and civic organizations. “It's a way, in my judgment, to start the year off on a positive note,” Burtner said. Burtner and Branham organized the event several years ago and have been pleased with the turnout. The event also draws attention to the faith-based community, which “provides an awful lot of services to the community,” Burtner said.

Jay Bicknell said the business he operates with partner Adam Jackson wouldn’t be possible without the sacrifices made by the American military. “Mine and Adam’s philosophy is, ‘Only in America can you dream up something like this and make it happen,’ and that’s because of soldiers,” Bicknell said. Fit2Kill is headquartered in Irvine and is designed to expose people to the outdoors through coordinated hunting competitions and guided hunting and fishing trips, as well as wildlife management.

It’s said that a broken clock is right twice a day, and that is true for Senator Rand Paul’s opposition to the four-year extension of the USA Patriot Act that President Obama signed last week. Paul, a Republican, found himself in good company as he joined Democrats John Udall and Ron Wyden in fighting an ultimately losing battle to let the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act (get it, USA Patriot Act?) of 2001 expire.

Grateful to Heritage board for its efforts to save our history Dear Sir: How delighted I am to read that the Winchester Heritage Commission is working to preserve the history of Winchester! The charm of the town is special and makes it a showplace for Kentucky. While delving into the genealogy of my family, I have learned my great-great-grandfather first bought property in Montgomery County in 1799 and lived in Clark County in 1800. To wonder what Winchester was like in those days is an exercise in imagining.

Mayor Ed Burtner used his opening remarks at Saturday's annual community prayer service to remind Clark County residents the importance of helping one another. He pointed to Proverbs 27:17, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another," to explain the work of government and public officials within the community. "It pretty much summarizes what those of us in the public sector doâ?¦ the process that we go through," Burtner said. "It's the work of many people coming together.

Dear Editor, I saw this headline on amnews.com and felt like I had to tell you who reads it. I live in Savannah, Ga., but I read amnews.com almost every day. I first started reading to find out about UK basketball. I found that you have one of, if not the, best sports reporters in Kentucky in Larry Vaught. I was raised in the edge of Rockcastle County and went to Brodhead and Mount Vernon to high school but lived closer to Berea (it was interesting to find out Tony Snow was born there)
