Boyle County will have some slightly different magisterial districts if a plan being proposed by a reapportionment committee is adopted by the Fiscal Court next week. Reapportionment takes place every 10 years, after the federal Census is conducted, to ensure each district has a relatively similar population and there is no more than a 10-percent difference between the districts with the largest and smallest populations.   “We really strived to not make any changes that were too drastic,” said County Clerk Trille Bottom, a non-voting member of the committee.

A 50-year-old Stanford man was indicted by a Jessamine County grand jury July 7 on three charges of use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual activities. Andrew Yates of 200 Shanks Lane in Stanford was originally arrested March 24 by Nicholasville police after having traveled from Stanford to Nicholasville to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex, Sgt. Scott Harvey said after the March arrest. Yates allegedly approached someone trying to sell an item on Craigslist and during the course of several texts began to make sexual comments, Harvey said.

MIDDLEBURG - A Casey County elementary student was taken to the hospital this morning after the side of her school bus was scraped by another vehicle. The injuries appeared to be minor, said Craig Griffin, director of transportation for Casey schools. The bus was approaching Middleburg on Short Town Road about 7:40 a.m. when the bus, driven by Peggy Hall and carrying 25 students, was struck along its driver’s side by a Ford Escape pickup operated by Donna Porter of Poplar Hill.

The storm front that brought high winds and heavy rains has caused minor flooding throughout portions of Jessamine County. John V. Carpenter, director of Jessamine County Emergency Management, said the worst damage was at the corner of Ross and 2nd streets in downtown Nicholasville. “We had a blocked retaining wall that helped petition off Town Branch (Creek), and due to erosion behind it and the water level (Tuesday) morning, the wall washed away, and it fell over into the creek,” he said.

Dear Editor, Herb Brock is a brave and honest man. I have been a Kentucky fan for more years than most and have deplored the scandals as I have cheered the wins. The change in college basketball (and football and other major sports) is not a cause for celebration. College teams have become little more than minor league talent pools for the acknowledged professional teams. I suspect that there are very few college teams now, at major schools, that are free from violations of the NCAA rules.

The winds of dissent are blowing in our county, and I definitely feel the breeze. The recent meeting of the Jessamine County Public Library Board of Trustees was barely over before someone was knocking on my door to see if I knew what was happening. I know only the sketchy details reported to me by a person who attended the meeting, and those reported in last week's article in the Journal by Jonathan Kleppinger. At the heart of the dispute is the library's policy regarding granting minors access to sexually explicit books.

According to the Kentucky State Police, the accident happened when Moore fell asleep while driving south on U.S. 27. His vehicle left the road and struck a rock wall before rolling over and coming to rest in the ditch.
