The storm system that blew through Kentucky dumped between 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 inches of rain on Jessamine County last Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville. The heavy rains caused flooding on many Jessamine County roadways, including Lois Lane in Tates Creek Estates, Mackey Pike, Jessamine Station Road, between Butler Boulevard and Woodspointe Way and Short Shun. The Jessamine County Fire District responded to Lois Lane around 6:30 a.m. as members of the department's swift water rescue team waded through waist-deep water knocking on 18 doors to see if people in the flooded area needed assistance.

Two Danville restaurant employees and their places of work face charges of selling alcohol to minors after an undercover sting by state Alcoholic Beverage Control officers. Chase B. Smith, who worked at Beef o' Brady's, and Tabitha L. Barnett of Pizza Hut, both have pretrial conferences set for Dec. 18 in Boyle District Court on first-offense charges of selling alcoholic beverages to minors, a misdemeanor. The restaurants will have administrative hearings in February at ABC offices in Frankfort.

Dear Editor, We are disappointed with the Danville commission in recent years. First, they gave away a promising tax source by not coming to the aid of The Old Crow Inn when it was selling beer by the case. I recently had a conversation with the manager of one outlet in Nicholasville who told me he was losing about $15,000 each month. He made no secret that the business establishments in several wet communities funded lobbying efforts in Frankfort to eliminate the Old Crow Inn from competing with them.

Dear Editor, I was amazed when I read that a possible ban on karaoke, dancing and pool playing was being considered in Danville establishments where alcohol is served. At first blush, some of my co-workers and I laughed our heads off, but when I sat and really gave thought to this I became increasingly disturbed. I am really sick of the hysteria associated with alcohol consumption in this town. Those who don't want alcohol sold in Danville are going through the back door trying to prohibit activities on the premise that karaoke, dancing and pool playing are contributing to violent, loud and obnoxious behaviors.

A Danville man recently was indicted by a Boyle County grand jury on multiple charges related to having sex with a minor. McElroy Burdette, 53, of 613 Longview Drive, was indicted on four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree sodomy. The charges involve allegations that Burdette had sexual relations with a girl between 1995 and 2006 "as a continuing course of conduct. " Two of the sexual abuse charges indicate the girl involved was younger than 12 years old. Burdette's bond was set at $200,000.

Dear Editor, I am concerned about a case in the social services and justice systems. Since there are minors involved, plus since apparently young minors are not "reliable witnesses" against possible perpetrators, I must leave names out of this letter. This case began in Henry County, and due to the biological mother moving when the heat is on, it has traveled through Lincoln, Mercer, Jefferson and Garrard counties. The "rest of the story" deals with small children who act out, and at least one talks of beatings and sexual molestation.

Don't look for Kentucky to be back recruiting at Baton Rogue Catholic High School in Louisiana any time soon. The Wildcats rescinded a scholarship offer to one player at the school and turned another player's offer into a grayshirt deal after both players said they had verbally committed to play for UK next season. "I will let Kentucky address that," Catholic coach Dale Weiner said when asked if UK would be welcomed back at his school. "All I want to say is that I have had a straight forward conversation with them about this.

Bill Cubbage: I read your missives concerning Louisville withdrawing a scholarship offer from Brad Durham in the Advocate-Messenger and on the KSR message board. You were very critical of the Louisville coaching staff and even included several quotes from Durham's "impartial" high school coach. One of his final quotes was that he hoped Brad would end up at UK because Rich Brooks kept his word and would never withdraw a scholarship offer. (I wonder if he still feels the same way?
