LEXINGTON - Construction work is under way for the Kiddville Road/Mountain Parkway interchange in southeastern Clark County, The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Department of Highways announced Friday. The $8.34 million project includes a new bridge over the parkway and four access ramps, according to a statement issued by the agency. In addition, KY 974 (Kiddville Road) between the Mountain Parkway and KY 15 will be reconstructed. The project was let on Dec. 14, 2012, and was awarded to the Allen Company Inc. Significant impacts to traffic will not be effective immediately.

A Clay City woman was transported to the University of Kentucky after a wreck on the Mountain Parkway Friday. Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue said 35-year-old Thelma Lewis was traveling on the Parkway when part of her tire came loose, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit the side of the Interstate 64 overpass bridge, causing it to flip over. Lewis received a severe head laceration, but Perdue said her injuries were not believed to be life threatening. She was flown to UK as a precautionary measure.

An epileptic seizure was likely a contributing factor in the death of a Clark County motorist whose vehicle veered off the Mountain Parkway on Friday before striking a tree and bursting into flames. Daily S. Pelfrey, 50, was driving westbound near the 11 mile-marker around 10:45 p.m. According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, his 2005 Chrysler Sebring dropped off the road and traveled several hundred feet along the right shoulder prior to impact. Pelfrey was pronounced dead at the scene.

East bound traffic was stalled for about two hours on the Mountain Parkway Wednesday afternoon following a car accident that sent two people to the hospital. Driver Jimmy Dale Barnett, 45, and a passenger, 40-year-old Marenda Barnett, were both injured when their truck struck a guard rail and overturned near the 12-mile-marker, just inside the Powell County line. According to Kentucky State Police, Jimmy was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in serious condition, and Marenda was transported by ambulance to Clark Regional Medical Center for less serious injuries.

A local man was injured in a one-vehicle wreck on Mountain Parkway just inside the Clark County line Sunday afternoon.Derick Rose, 21, of Winchester, was westbound on the highway at about 4 p.m. when his right tire blew out, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, which flipped multiple times, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Department. Rose was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of a head injury and later released.

Area residents had the opportunity to share their thoughts on a new Interstate 64/Mountain Parkway interchange at a public forum Tuesday night. Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and EA Partners, a consulting engineering firm based in Lexington, spoke with community members and answered questions about the three main design possibilities, and three subdesigns. “We're here to get input from the community about anything we may have missed in the design process,” said Jerry Cottingham, an engineer with EA Partners.
