Dear Editor, I am writing with regard to the letter to the editor written on Oct. 2, by Mr. Cecil Arnold. I am also a longtime citizen of Garrard County and very concerned with what happens in Garrard County. I am a small business owner in the timber and wood industry. Mr. Napier has never neglected to respond to the needs and interests of the small business owners of Garrard County. His involvement with local businesses distinctly displays his concern for this county.

A recent letter was highly critical of Rep. Lonnie Napier’s bill to require drug testing for anyone seeking public assistance. The writer also was insulting to all Republicans for implying lack of compassion for the poor. I see nothing wrong with requiring those seeking public assistance to undergo drug testing. I fail to understand how this would cause innocent little children to suffer and cause undue shameful indignity to senior citizens. What is wrong with asking those who seek assistance to show proof of need and not allowing them to spend the money on illegal substances?

Lonnie Napier, R-Lancaster, has earned the distinction of being named "Orator of the Year" for a second time due to his impassioned speeches to his Frankfort colleagues, according to the Legislative Research Commission. The award recognizes Napier's reputation as a fierce defender of rural Kentuckians and their needs against larger powers and interests. "Rep. Dear Editor, State Rep. Lonnie Napier, a Republican candidate for state treasurer, is the epitome of the type of person who should hold that position. Looking back over his many years as a state legislator, Rep. Napier has an exemplary reputation. His honesty and integrity are beyond reproach; and he cares deeply for the people he represents. Rep. Napier is not a stranger to hard work, as is obvious in his tireless perserverance to the causes in which he believes. What more could anyone ask for in selecting the person who will serve as treasurer of the state of Kentucky?

Rep. Lonnie Napier made his appearance at the Garrard County Courthouse as planned Saturday, with family, friends and many supporters there for his big announcement. But Napier did not say what many expected to hear. Instead of announcing his campaign for governor, Napier surprised many by saying he is seeking the office of treasurer. "I've been thinking about that or governor either one," Napier said. Napier said he was truly pleased to see so many supporters from several counties represented at the courthouse on Saturday.

"I just haven't announced it formally, and right now I'm focused on running at the top of the ticket," Grayson said. Those remarks came in response to questions about Grayson's recent discussion with State Rep. Lonnie Napier, R-Lancaster, regarding their respective intentions. Grayson, a rising star in the Kentucky Republican Party, said, "I realize that every day I don't file is another campaigning day lost, but I'm not going to run if I don't feel like I have a good running mate or a good organizational structure in place.

FRANKFORT - Lawyers for Jason Napier, who was convicted of manslaughter  in Lincoln Circuit Court, in 2011, are hoping the mention of a polygraph test during the trial will give their client another day in court. Louisville attorney Steve Romines said Friday that arguments were made in the state Court of Appeals that Napier should get another trial because Judge David Tapp did not declare a mistrial after witness Jessica Noble told jurors she had passed a lie-detector test concerning matters related to her four-year-old son, Nathaniel Knox, who was beaten to death in 2009.

As you may be aware, after 28 years in the legislature I¿made a decision not to seek re-election. When I look back over my career in the General Assembly, I am proud of the amount of progress we made on many issues important to Kentucky. However, much work remains, and that is why it is important the people of Garrard and Madison counties send an experienced and skilled individual to Frankfort to continue the heavy-lifting that still needs to be done. To that end, I have whole-heartedly endorsed Republican candidate Nathan Mick for state representative for the 36th District.
