The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1828, met Jan. 22 at noon at the Taste of China. Eric Hunter, a paramedic with the Winchester Fire-Emergency Medical Service, presented a program, giving NARFE the history of the Emergency Medical Service. He discussed Winchester Fire-EMS' staffing, education and training, ambulances, the services they provide, safety activities and their interaction with the community. NARFE Chapter 1828 met Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Central Baptist Church for a potluck dinner and its annual auction for Alzheimer's research. Geneva Lenox was presented with a plaque for her many years of service as chapter treasurer. The National Association for Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Taste of China. Elizabeth Chalfant, treasurer for the Winchester Art Guild and also a NARFE member, presented the program. She told members about the artists who have creative work in the art guild's gallery, which is located on Main Street, and she displayed some of their products that are available for purchase at the gallery. Dr. Blake Nelson spoke to members of Chapter 1828, National Active and Retired Federal Employees about insects and other pests. His talk was illustrated with a power point presentation and some live specimens. Nelson, an entomologist at the University of Kentucky, was introduced by Don Spillman, program chairman. The meeting, held on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at "A Taste of China" was conducted by Gayle Rees, president. The invocation was given by Lila Omohundro and the president led in the pledge of allegiance.

Chapter 1828 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met Tuesday at a Taste of China with 40 members and guests attending. The meeting was conducted by Gayle Rees, president. Ruby Lenox gave the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the president. Mrs. Joan Veazey, who was introduced by Don Spillman, program chairman, was the featured speaker. Mrs. Veazey is NARFE Chapter 97 president (Central Kentucky - Lexington) and is current vice chairwoman and past chairperson of NARFE Alzheimer's National Committee.

Bobby and Larry Womack gave members and guests of Chapter 1828 a glimpse of their life in the Philippines. Jane Larkey introduced her daughter and son-in-law to the chapter on Tuesday at A Taste of China. The Womacks are missionaries in Tacloban City on the island of Leyte. Their work includes supplemental feeding programs for children, health classes and clinics, and discipleship classes. They are funded through the Hope Foundation for the Womacks. The meeting was called to order by Gayle Rees, chapter president.

Mrs. Kenney Roseberry and The Dulcimer Dames were the guests of Chapter 1828 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees on Oct. 24. The Chapter met at A Taste of China with R. B. Omohundro presiding. Geaetta Ballard gave the invocation, and R.B. Omohundro led in the Pledge to the Flag. Don Spillman introduced the guests, who entertained with Appalachian songs. The Dulcimer Dames are Roseberry, Beulah Fraley, Helen Link, Pat Holland and Brenda Mann.
