To the editor: This letter is in response to a letter printed in The Interior Journal on November 7, 2007. First let me say that I do not want to take away anything from what Agnes Peavyhouse and the other members of the Humane Society accomplished. I am sure it was a long and difficult struggle to get the current shelter operating and a bigger shelter built. When I went to my first meeting in August, I had no intention of becoming a board member. I was excited to learn we had a Humane Society and wanted to be part of it. However, when it became clear that the organization had not been active for several years, had been dissolved by the state, had no members, no board, and did not seem eager to provide information or be open to discussing different views from those present, I became concerned.

STANFORD - Lincoln County Fiscal Court approved the second reading of an ordinance Friday that officially disbanded the county's 911 board and is looking to start over again, possibly with Garrard County as a partner. Part of the new ordinance abolished the original 1991 ordinance that established the board. It created a new board with the sheriff, county attorney and 911 Center director as permanent members. It has yet to be determined how the other four board positions will be filled.

The vacant fifth seat on the Jessamine County Board of Education has been filled, board Chairman Karl Smith said Thursday. Joann Rohrback, a former Jessamine County school board member, will represent district 3. She was appointed by state Commissioner of Education Gene Wilhoit and sworn in before a special board meeting Thursday evening. Rohrback has joined the board too late in the year to be on the November ballot. She will be up for election in 2007. The district lost representation in May, when Chris Stansbury left because he moved out of the district for family reasons.

Dear Editor: The newly composed Boyle County school board has finally revealed its true nature. We saw hints of it during the controversy over the marching band's request to use the football field. Having been personally involved with that controversy, I can state that Dr. Pam Rogers worked as hard as she could to find a solution for this issue. It was solely the school board that voted on that issue (5-0) and thereby invited the storm of criticism. Squarely behind that 5-0 vote were Alane Mills and Steve Tamme.
