The Nicholasville Police Department is investigating its first murder case in more than 13 years after a man discovered shot near 231 Rebel Road died. Pascual Hernandez, 30, was shot in the neck area sometime after 1 a.m. Sunday. A release Thursday from the NPD said Hernandez was pronounced dead at the University of Kentucky Hospital, according to the Fayette County Coroner's Office. Police do not have any information on the shooter in the case and are asking the public for “any and all assistance,” officer Kevin Grimes said in a news release.

Nicholasville police arrested two Wilmore men on charges of federal conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. The arrests stem from a two-year investigation that involved the Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to a news release. Anthony James, 28, and Charles Powell, 60, were arrested Friday. According to an NPD news release, James and Powell were travelling to Tennessee and obtaining prescription pills, and bringing them back to central Kentucky to sell.

Less than 24 hours after two Nicholasville children were reported missing, police say they have turned up, according to a news release. Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Nicholasville Police Department began searching for 3-year-old Kaleb Mathew Boles and 4-month-old Brayden Zachary Hensley. The children were scheduled to be dropped off at their mother's home Tuesday afternoon. Jonathan R. Hensley, 31, the mother's boyfriend and the father of Brayden, was thought to have been involved in the disappearance, the news release said.

The City of Winchester will receive more than $9,000 in grants to construct six wetlands as part of the Town Branch Restoration Project. Bluegrass PRIDE, a non-profit organization that gives environmental resources and information to local governments in central Kentucky, and U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Kentucky, announced the grant Monday in a news release. “The wetlands will filter stormwater during flood events, provide wildlife habitats and present opportunities for education and research,” the news release states.

The trial of two Georgia men charged in connection with a shooting in June 2012 has been postponed until April. Mark J. Buckland, 45, of 8400 Zebulon Road, Macon, Ga.; and Michael N. Buckland, 36, 6659 Hwy 87, Macon, are accused of shooting into a vehicle occupied by Jeremy Stanley and Carl Stanley, according to court records. The shooting occurred June 21, 2012, around 1:20 p.m. at 728 Chinkapin Drive in Nicholasville, according to a news release from the Jessamine County Sheriff's office released shortly after the incident.

HARRODSBURG - A Somerset man was arrested Tuesday night after police received a call about a reckless driver on U.S. 127, according to a news release. Harrodsburg police officers Anthony Wesley and Jason Elder stopped the vehicle and arrested Chance Moody for a suspended license. After stopping the vehicle, police found a needle in the truck with an unknown substance in it, the release said. A soda can also was found with an unknown substance on top of it.

HARRODSBUG — Delaine C. Riley, 29, of Harrodsburg, has been arrested and charged with one count of manufacturing methamphetamine. Riley was charged after a traffic stop when Mercer County Sheriff's deputies found items in his car that could be used in manufacturing meth, according to a news release. He is currently being held in the Boyle County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.

Isaiah "Ikie" Wilkinson was indicted by the Jessamine County grand jury on a first-degree assault charge and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The indictment stems from the Jan. 11 shooting which sent a woman to the hospital. According to a news release from the Nicholasville Police Department, witnesses from the said some type of confrontation had taken place, and when the victim was driving back to her home, Wilkinson allegedly fired one shot into the car, striking the victim the shoulder.

Nicholasville's Timothy W. Gill, 47, was arrested and charged cultivating marijuana, more than five plants, by the Nicholasville Police Department. According to a news release, officers executed a search warrant on Gill's home, located at 2303 Elm Fork Road, Oct. 9 and found 10 marijuana plants growing and other marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home. According to NPD Detective Bruce Crouch, the plants have a street value of $1,000 each or $10,000. Gill was held in the Jessamine County Detention Center before bonding out. His next court date is set for Nov. 5 in Jessamine Circuit Court.

Gabriel Owens has been dismissed as a deputy jailer at the Lincoln County Regional Jail and charged with promoting contraband in the second degree, according to a news release issued by the jail Saturday. Captain Justin Parsons with the jail's Internal Affairs Unit charged Owens on Thursday. Owens is the second employee at the facility charged in recent weeks as part of an ongoing investigation that first resulted in the arrest of former deputy jailer Justin Pearson. Officials say more charges and arrests are expected.

The New York City Medical Examiner's office has determined the cause of death of Danville native Danielle Thomas and ruled the death a homicide, officials said Friday. Thomas, 27, was strangled and beaten to death in her apartment Tuesday, according to Grace Brugess, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office. Her estranged boyfriend, Jason Bohn, 33, is a “person of interest” in the slaying, said New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly. Thomas had a restraining order against Bohn.

United Way of the Bluegrass Tuesday recognized Mayor Ed Burtner, Terry Davidson, Gina Lang, JoEllen Reed, Brian Walton and Judy Crowe, director of Clark County Community Services, as Community Connectors, those who “get things done” in the Bluegrass region. According to a United Way news release, the six were among the 144 people recognized for their commitment to civic leadership. They were identified through a public nomination process. “The purpose of the Bluegrass Community Connectors Project is to identify great civic connectors in the Bluegrass region who make significant things happen in our communities,” the news release states.

Nicholasville police are asking the public's help in a purse-snatching case that occurred outside Walmart late Thursday afternoon. According to a news release, a man, described as a white male, standing 5 feet 10 inches to six feet one inch tall with a thin build, snatched a purse from an 84-year-old woman, pushing her to the groun in the store's parking lot. He fled the area on foot, according to the news release. Witnesses said the man had light brown or blond hair and was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and work boots.

Two popular Winchester attractions have been added to the Kentucky Department of Travel and Tourism's “There's Only One Kentucky” list, a marketing campaign to draw tourists to the state. Ale-8-One and the Beer Cheese Festival are among 13 new attractions that were selected recently from applications submitted to the department, according to a news release. The department made the announcement Monday in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, which began May 5 and lasts until May 13. “'There's Only One' differentiates Kentucky from other destinations by emphasizing attractions and events that travelers to and within the Commonwealth can experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else,” the news release states.

A Nicholasville man was sentenced to four years in federal prision for distributing prescription pills to several central Kentucky cities. Christopher Holland, 40, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer B. Coffman on May 3 for distribution of oxycodone. Coffman also sentenced Holland's co-defendant, Florence Stinnett, 50, of Nicholasville for possession with intent to distribute oxycodone. She was sentenced to one year in prison. According to a news release from the Office of the United States Attorney Eastern District of Kentucky, Holland previously admitted he either possessed or distributed approximately 1,300 oxycodone pills in Richmond, Lancaster and Danville.

Two Lincoln County residents were charged Tuesday night with manufacturing methamphetamine and wanton endangerment of law enforcement officers when sheriff's deputies made an explosive discovery in their vehicle. David Wayne Roberts, 43, of Kings Mountain, and Keesha Lynn Saylor, 32, of Stanford, were each arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, wanton endangerment and two counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer, according to jail records. Roberts also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
