LOUISVILLE - Iowa State senior guard Chris Allen says as soon as the game ended, he was “ready for Kentucky” and anxious to play the No. 1 Wildcats on Saturday night. “It feels great. I can't wait to the next game. I wish we played now,” said Allen after Iowa State's 77-64 win over Connecticut. “If we do what we have to do, this is probably going to be one of the toughest roads to get to the NCAA finals in history. If we come out like we did against UConn, it's going to be a long game for Kentucky.” Iowa State might back up those bold words if it plays like it did during what coach Fred Hoiberg called his team's “best 10 minutes of the season” that put Connecticut in a hole early and took care of all the pre-NCAA hype about a Kentucky-Connecticut rematch of last year's Final Four game.

Clark needs all-night pharmacy Dear Editor, My grandson had to go to the emergency room the other night at the hospital. He needed antibiotics. The ER gave him a dose of fever reducer before we left because we didn't have any at home. We had to wait until the next morning when a pharmacy opened to get medications. Of course, she was out there until 9 a.m. when other pharmacies open up. Why do they not have an all-night pharmacy in Winchester or at the hospital they are opening up?

Bedtime is often a bitter battle between parent and child, resulting in stress and frustration. When bedtime is marked by tears and screams, it can become a drawn out chore rather than a peaceful conclusion to the day. Experts tend to agree a calming bedtime ritual can ease bedtime battles, while a deviation from this routine makes the problem worse. If you can develop a bedtime ritual early in your child's life, it will be easier for your child to develop good bedtime habits for the future.

The West Jessamine boys' basketball team picked up a big win Thursday night by defeating Dunbar 81-71. The Colts recognized seniors Jeff Ziemann, Heath Jackson and DeShawn Eubanks prior to the game, and the seniors responded by helping West to its 17th win of the year. Ziemann put together a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds; he also had six assists. Jackson and Eubanks each scored six points. “I told my assistants before the game, in all my years I've seen a lot of seniors come out on senior night and shoot the ball really well and I was willing to give them a little bit of freedom early to see,” West Jessamine coach Damon Kelley said.

One early morning several days ago, I was standing on my front porch while Winston greeted the day in his usual way. The clouds were dark and heavy, and I was certain that we were in for a bad thunderstorm. But I was wrong. In a short time, the clouds had rolled away and we had a beautiful, sunny day. When I was a child living in Paris, lightning stuck our home during a thunderstorm and I can still hear the man next door yelling to us to get out, that our house was on fire.

The roads in Clark County were in good shape, after the first blast of winter weather arrived Thursday afternoon, according to local road officials. Kevin Wilson, Clark County road supervisor, said county road crews started working on the roads about 7 p.m. Thursday, and 10 salt trucks were out. “They're cold, and a little bit of snow cover, but we finished up last night about 2 o'clock, so we're back out this morning checking up on things, but everything seems to be in pretty good shape,” he said.

Well goodness gracious Carol Burns. Doesn't she know that Halloween is the devil's night to prowl the graveyards and alleyways, and to let lose all the little demons to trick or treat all the good people of the world? Well, don't you know that Christmas is no longer a celebration of the Christ child in America today? It's happy holidays, cedar trees and gifts for everyone, mistletoe, jingle bells and Santa Claus with Dancer and the little elves singing carols and playing in the snow.
