Since he called off his official visit to Florida last weekend after the resignation of coach Urban Meyer, Boyle County linebacker Lamar Dawson has now decided to take an official visit to Kentucky this weekend. He’ll go to the Kentucky campus today and be there until Sunday. The Wildcats plan to send a Lincoln Town Car to Boyle to pick up Dawson and his grandmother for their weekend visit. “Florida is not off my list, but I just didn’t want to wait on them for a visit,” Dawson said.

George Rogers Clark junior Vinny Zollo will make an official visit to Notre Dame Saturday. The Irish are among several programs showing interest in Zollo. Zollo originally committed to the University of Kentucky, but changed his mind after a coaching change at the school. Tennessee also is showing interest in Zollo. "Things are heating up on the recruiting trail," Zollo's mother Robyn Curry said this morning.

Kentucky's football recruiting success continues to grow as the Wildcats have now added three more out-of-state verbal commitments. Receiver Terrence Jones of Atlanta, linebacker Chris Mosby of Memphis and running back Demetrius Goode of LaGrange, Ga., announced over the weekend that they would sign with the Wildcats in February. Kentucky is also hoping to land a commitment from another one of the state's top players, Southwestern defensive linemen Josh Minton, this week. He visited Virginia Tech last weekend and is scheduled to be at UK this weekend along with two other top in-state defensive linemen, Cory Peters of Central and Andre Henderson of Manual.

There were times even Spencer Perrin had some doubts about his basketball future. "Everybody, or most people, thought I would never make it. Sometimes when I was on my own I was even thinking that. I got by with God's help and by going to church. I never gave up and never gave in. I just kept going," Perrin said Friday. "A lot of people wanted me to give up. I almost did, but I am sure glad I didn't. " That's because the 2007 Boyle County graduate has verbally committed to play basketball at Eastern Kentucky and will sign with the Colonels in November.

WINCHESTER - Preston Knowles made his college choice official on Wednesday and became the first basketball player from George Rogers Clark to sign a scholarship with the University of Louisville. Knowles, who made an official visit to Louisville last weekend, signed with the Cardinals in front of his teammates, classmates, coaches, teachers and various members of the media in the school library. Knowles made a verbal commitment on Monday. "It's the biggest dream any kid in high school or middle school could dream of," he said.

Kentucky added another verbal commitment to its 2004 recruiting class when Florida linebacker Johnny Williams said Monday that he would sign with the Wildcats next month. Williams made an official visit to UK last weekend and said he liked everything about the experience, including the UK-Vanderbilt basketball game he attended in Rupp Arena. "I had never seen a college basketball game. It was a wild experience and really showed me that Kentucky has great fans," Williams said.

Lamar Dawson’s focus is on winning another state championship for Boyle County, but he landed his first individual award Thursday when he was named the Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year. He’s also expected to be the front-runner for the Paul Hornung Award given to the state’s top football player, as well as the Mr. Football award selected by the state’s media. “I don’t even think about awards. I just go out and play. Honestly, I never think or talk about being Mr. Football or anything else,” Dawson said.

Still not 100 percent sure where he would decide to attend college, Danville lineman Michael Jones went with his gut. The  senior said he was torn on which school to play college football for until about 20 minutes before his scheduled signing ceremony Wednesday at Danville High School. But the school that was there all along won out, and Jones signed his letter of intent with Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. “I was still kind of juggling the decision until about 20 minutes ago. I went with my gut decision and on my official visit, I loved Wofford,” said Jones, who was recruited as an offensive tackle.

Dyshawn Mobley's high school teammate thinks Kentucky is adding a quality running back to its 2012 recruiting class. “He is a great player. He is a great athlete with a great attitude,” Powell (Tenn.)¿High School defensive tackle Tony Foster said. “I love playing with him. When Adrian Rudd began looking for colleges, Truman State University in Missouri wasn't even on the radar. But after visiting the school in September, Rudd realized it was the perfect place for her and the Boyle County senior has signed a letter of intent to swim there next year. “It was just so completely random,”¿Rudd said of how she and the school found each other. “The coach (Ed Pretre) found me on berecruited.com, and I just got to know him in phone calls and he invited me for an official visit.

She has long wanted to go to college in the Carolinas, but Kaitlin Snapp had no idea this is where she would end up. Snapp found Elon University during a spring-break tour of schools in North Carolina and South Carolina, and she found it to her liking when she returned for an official visit earlier this month. The Danville distance runner, who has won eight state championships in cross country and track and field, has committed to attend Elon and compete in those two sports. Elon was a late addition to a list of schools in the Carolinas that Snapp planned to visit with her parents this spring.

Lamar Dawson says spending last week in San Antonio as part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl gave him a brief break from his hectic recruiting pace. However, now it’s all about recruiting again for the Boyle County linebacker, who is considered the state’s best player by most recruiting analysts. Scout.com has his rated as the nation’s sixth-best middle linebacker. He’ll make an official visit to Southern California this weekend and then go to Central Florida and Tennessee the next two weekends.

One official visit to Bowling Green was enough to convince Vinny Zollo to plan his college future. The George Rogers Clark senior standout verbally committed to Western Kentucky University Monday, three days after he attended the school’s “Hilltopper Hysteria,” a yearly event that ushers in the start of basketball season at Western. Boyle County senior Lamar Dawson says his official visit to Oregon last weekend “was everything I expected” and gave him the opportunity he wanted to evaluate the school and the facilities. It also didn’t hurt that he got to see No. 2 Oregon beat Stanford and establish itself as a solid national championship contender. “I was probably the most impressed with the fans and the facilities. That’s what I really liked,” said Dawson. “I got to talk to all the coaches and some of the players.
