Dear Editor: I must challenge the recent letter from J.T. Underwood disparaging the Libertarian Party and perhaps my candidacy for Congress. I sympathize with his frustrations with the Chandler/Kerr no-show at KET last Monday. But labeling support of my party or my candidacy as crazy, without substantive argument, borders on libel. If Underwood simply cannot perceive of an open electoral system with more than two viable choices, then I am quite happy to welcome another electoral no-show.

LANCASTER - Garrard County Judge-Executive candidate Dick Brunson, an Independent, has arranged three different town hall meetings during October to promote what he hopes will be an open forum for citizens' concerns. "I hope that people can come together during these forums, and can discuss what they feel are the biggest concerns facing the next wave of leadership into Garrard County," Brunson said. He's referring to the gatherings as old-fashioned town hall meetings where anyone is welcome.

Dear Editor: I am writing to voice my objection to Danville spending $50,000 of taxpayer money to pay consultants to advise the city on its use of property. Is that not what we elected the city commissioners to do? People who actually live and work in the city and elected to its leadership positions should be in a much better position to determine property use than outside consultants who may have all kinds of hidden agendas for their recomendations. I realize that ultimately they will not make the final decision, but why do we need their input at all?

BURGIN - Burgin City Council discussed the possibility of adding sewer service in the near future Tuesday night. Mayor Terry Pitman reported to the City Council what was discussed during a meeting with Bluegrass Area Development District and Mercer County Sanitation District representatives. Pitman voiced concern about both the financial burdens of adding a sewer line as well as the likely inevitability of the move.

I always was told never to talk about politics or religion in an open forum such as this column, but I felt called to respond to a headline I saw. While watching the evening news, a quote came out from Steven Hawking. He is a premier physicist of our time; think of Sheldon on “The Big Bang Theory.” It went like this: “Heaven is a fairy story for people who are afraid of the dark. I regard the brain as a computer, which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken-down computers.” Wait!

Dear Dave, In an attempt to improve my credit I recently bought a new car which I financed at 17.9 percent for 72 months. If I make the minimum payment of $468 a month, I'll end up paying about $13,000 in interest alone. Is there a formula I can use to avoid paying all this interest? Marcus Dear Marcus, Yes, there is a formula that will keep you from paying all that interest. Sell the stinking car. Your credit is lousy because you haven't paid your bills. And you haven't paid your bills because you bought a bunch of stuff you couldn't afford ?

PERRYVILLE - The people of Perryville want a bypass. Perryville Fire Chief Anthony Young said a bypass, which is not in the state's six-year road plan, would benefit the town most as a safety device. "We have problems downtown, especially at the (U.S.
