LANCASTER - Three area men - one of them a suspect in two vehicle thefts - are in jail after allegedly stealing about 40 guns and other goods from a Lancaster pawn shop this week. Kentucky State Police arrested Woodey Gabbard Embry, 29, and Jeremiah D. Gregory, 18, both of Lancaster, and Tyler Jessie Roberts, 20, of Danville and charged all three with first-degree burglary, Trooper Jon Allen said. Roberts also is a suspect in a break-in at DB Automotive in Nicholasville, during which a Nissan Maxima was stolen and later found burned in the Mount Hebron area of Garrard County.

LANCASTER - Kentucky State Police released a statement and photos showing firearms and jewelry recovered during an investigation into the burglary of a Garrard County pawn shop. The items, according to KSP, are valued at $4,500. After KSP responded Monday morning to Cecil and Jo's Sports and Pawn Shop, 2750 Stanford Road, it was discovered the shop was broken into overnight Sunday. Approximately 40 firearms, a large quantity of jewelry and coins had been taken. Over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, KSP¿was assisted by Nicholasville Police Department, Garrard, Casey and Madison counties sherriffs departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in developing several leads and suspects.

The ordinance regulating pawnbrokers and precious metal dealers aimed at helping people recover goods stolen, often for drug money, has come full circle, and two others are one step closer to enactment. On Tuesday, the Winchester Board of Commissioners approved the second reading of an ordinance requiring pawnbrokers to hold items bought without a pawn agreement for 10 days before reselling them, and precious metal dealers to hold their bought goods for five days before recycling or reselling them.

Winchester Police are currently investigating a burglary on Bloomfield Road early Thursday morning. According to Capt. James Hall, police received a call about an alarm sounding at Check Advance at 2:53 a.m. Thursday. There also is a pawn shop operated at the same location. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the door open, though Hall said that the burglars actually entered through the roof. “They accessed through the roof and into the storage area into the pawn shop,” Hall said.

Charged — Randall Carr, 32, of Essie, was charged Tuesday with disregarding a traffic control device, driving under the influence of intoxicants, no seat belt and no insurance. Reports — At 1:36 p.m. Tuesday, Wayne C. Harrison of 217 Cook Ave. reported that a known female took some of his medication. — At 1 p.m. Friday, Andrea Stauter of 128 Cherokee Drive reported that someone took a laptop computer from her residence at 210 Locust Grove Road. The computer was located at a pawn shop.

When news got out that a pawn shop was going to occupy the former offices of The Interior Journal on Main Street in downtown Stanford, it was met with no little rolling of eyes, but Silver Bullet Gold and Pawn owner David Southerland said that the new shop across from the county courthouse has been well received, and many customers have expressed surprise at how “nice and clean” it is. “A lot of older women have come in shopping for...
