A year ago the Jaguars competed in the Lady Pirate Holiday Classic at Berea and went 1-3. Coming into this year's tournament, East Jessamine's girls basketball team had dropped two straight road games. When the club arrived, it was looking for a turnaround to its fortunes. Things didn't start out that way as the Jaguars fell to Madison Central 52-46 to open the tournament despite 31 points from senior guard Ashley Willoughby. "We felt like we were in the first game and didn't execute as well as we needed to," East Coach Ralph Sallee said.

J.B. Williams dropped everything else this past year and completely devoted himself to golf. The move has paid off as the Danville senior won the All “A” Classic title, earned his third straight trip to this week's state tournament in Bowling Green and earned a Division I scholarship. “I just think the results that I've had, I got the state championship win that I was so dearly looking for, and I think I'm third or fourth in all-state points now. I think from a personal standpoint, I've gotten better in all aspects of the game,”¿Williams said after placing second in the 4th Region Tournament last week.

LIBERTY - Beth Patterson had limited her college choices down to two prospective schools before a new school entered the picture. Just about a month later, that school got a commitment from Patterson. The Casey County senior signed a scholarship Friday to play basketball for Pikeville College. The Bears beat out Cumberland and Union, her first two choices. "The coach at Pikeville (Bill Watson) told me he had been talking to another coach, telling him what he needed this year and what he wanted them to come in and do," Patterson said.

East Jessamine golfer Hillary Harkins signed a national letter of intent last month to continue her golf career and education at Pikeville College. “(Pikeville) is close to home, and they really made me feel like it was home,” Harkins said. Her father also has an office near Pikeville, so family will never be too far away. Pikeville’s golf program is still in it infancy, having just begun in past few years. Harkins knows that she can help build the program, and that was one of the draws.
