A preliminary sketch plat for part of the Westgate subdivision was approved by the Nicholasville Planning Commission at its meeting Monday despite objection from attorneys for R.J. Corman Real Estate and two citizens who live near the subdivision. The plat for Unit 1B of the subdivision, which consists of 40 lots on a little less than 13.5 acres of land, is the second plat approved for the subdivision,  which is located between R.J. Corman's property and Rosenwald-Dunbar Elementary off Wilmore Road (Ky. 29)

County planners debated at a meeting this month whether applicants who are reconfiguring lots should be required to bring the lots into compliance with all existing regulations or whether they should allow some noncompliance if the changes are improvements. The discussion came at the April 9 meeting of the Jessamine County-City of Wilmore Joint Planning Commission. One of the two plat applications that sparked the debate is a reconfiguration of two plats at  1515 and 1527 Woods Road in Nicholasville.

Alocal golf course/development's approach, which officials called “unorthodox,” to developing Keene Manor Subdivision prompted much discussion at a meeting of the Jessamine County/City of Wilmore Joint Planning and Zoning Commission last Tuesday. Corman McQueen Golf, Inc., submitted a request for approval of a final plat for lot 27 in Unit 2 of the subdivision, more than 10 years after receiving approval for the preliminary plat for Unit 2, and more than two years after a final plat for a neighboring lot, lot 29, received approval, according to a staff report submitted to the commission.

The preliminary and final plat for the Weisiger Lofts was approved Wednesday by Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning Commission. The condominiums will be constructed on top of Subway and the Bluegrass Beach House on North Fourth Street. Charlie Raffay, a partner with Redwood Properties, told the commission that the lofts will consist of eight condos with three floors each, plus a rooftop deck. P&Z Commissioner John Bowling recused himself from the plat discussion, and spoke on behalf of a parking agreement between he and Raffay.

STANFORD - The Lincoln County School Board will have to submit another plat of the old Kings Mountain Elementary School and lot for approval. The first plat for the old school, which will be auctioned off soon, was not approved by Lincoln County Planning and Zoning. The school board agreed on a new plat on Thursday. In the first plat the sewage treatment facility was not included in the lot the school was going to auction. A variance was not granted for that reason. The school board approved an expanded lot that also included an accessory building.

The Jessamine County-City of Wilmore Joint Planning Commission voted unanimously to deny a subdivision plat Tuesday night. The plat was submitted by Allin Harris for his property at 1324 Watts Mill Road. He sought to expand four lots in the back of his property that were made in 1904 and do not conform to current ordinance requirements. He was also seeking a variance on a road-widening requirement. The commission heard several hours of testimony Aug. 14 and voted at that time to close the hearing and postpone a decision until the September meeting.

HARRODSBURG - It was full speed ahead for development plans concerning Skylar's Landing and Eddie Montgomery's Steakhouse Monday night. All plats required to be approved before development begins were approved at the Greater Harrodsburg/ Mercer County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. Plats approved by the commission include a preliminary plat for Skylar's Landing (phase 1), improvement plans for Skylar's Landing (phase 1), a final plat for Skylar's Landing, and a site plan for Eddie Montgomery's Steakhouse.

Feb. 18, 1988 The Winchester-Clark County Planning and Zoning Commission granted formal plat approval for the entrance into the county's new middle school. The approval is for a .36-acre strip near the intersection of Fulton Road and Shoppers Drive. Navy Seaman Recruit Timo C. Szobonya, son of Don G. and Charlotte J. Hooper of 604 Estes Drive, Winchester, completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. James S. Tatman, publisher and owner of The Winchester Sun since 1936, died after a lengthy illness.

Attorneys on behalf of R.J. Corman filed an injunction last Tuesday in the Jessamine County Circuit Clerk's Office to stop further construction of the controversial Westgate Subdivision. In the motion, R.J. Corman Real Estate, LLC asks the court for a restraining order or a stay of further development by RCCB, LLC on the basis that "construction and development will cause irreparable harm to Jessamine Creek" and "harm to adjacent and downstream property owners and residents. " The hotly contested development is across from R.J. Corman's property and runs along Jessamine Creek, near West Jessamine Middle School and south of Rosenwald-Dunbar Elementary School on Wilmore Road.

Correction A spokesperson for Junction City Fire Chief Jim King misspoke yesterday in reporting the city had imposed a ban on fireworks there. The Nicholasville Planning Commission is preparing to be embroiled in several lawsuits over the next few months in which it will find itself as both plaintiff and defendant. “(Planning and zoning) is going to see more litigation in the following months than its ever seen before,” attorney Bobby Gullette told the commissioners at Monday night's meeting. “Just a heads up, in case any of you are subpoenaed.” The first lawsuit is starting off small but seeks to ultimately block or delay the building of the Westgate Subdivision.

It was a swift session for the Nicholasville Planning Commission on Monday night as it started off the first meeting of 2012 by  approving a handful of amendments with little discussion. Commissioners voted in favor of all amendments and requests put before the board though two members, Linda Kentz and Bennie Hager, were not in attendance. Other topics discussed were the nominations for 2012 Planning Commission officers - chairman, vice chairman and secretary. The current chairman, John Quinn was nominated to stay on as chairman as was Steve Williams for the position.
