Chapter 1828 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association met at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the Fish and Game Club for a potluck and auction. Proceeds from the auction will go toward Alzheimer's Disease research. Plans for a trip to Midway were finalized at the March 13 potluck luncheon meeting of the JOY/XYZ Group of First United Methodist Church, held in the fellowship hall at the church. The group will visit Midway on April 27 and have lunch at The Court Caf. Alice Tucker was recognized for having a March birthday, and the table blessing was given by Bibby Anderson. Present were Dorothy Foster, Ethel Vance, Beunice Roberts, Agnes Lowry, Alice Tucker, Mary Rowe, Hazel May, Boo Baldwin and Bibby Anderson.

The Rowdy Golden Girls Homemakers met for a Halloween party Sunday, Oct. 7, at the home of Mary Helen Poole. Present were Mary Alice Sosby, Mrs. Poole, DeLinda Pelfrey, Jenni King, Donna Walden, Carolyn Prince, JoAnn Webb, Pam Price, Susan Banker, Beverly Kelley, Brenda Chaney and Nancy Beck. Everyone dressed in costume, and pictures were taken. Witches Brew Stew made by Mrs. Poole was the main course, and all members brought food for the Halloween potluck. A short business meeting was held, at which time it was decided that the club would have a booth at the Christian Baptist Church Bazaar to be held at the S.T.R.

The Winchester AARP met at the Generation Center, March 27 at 6 p.m., and a pot luck dinner was served to 33 members and guests. Colista Ledford, president, conducted the meeting, and Don Rose led the pledge to the flag. Wilma Ballard gave the table blessing and prayer for others. After that, June Curtis and Joe Rupis were recognized for their March birthdays. Lori Hall and Suzanne Isaacs of the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation spoke. They assist Kentuckians with disabilities to achieve employment.

The LLL Club met Feb. 20 at Central Baptist Church for the monthly meeting and potluck luncheon. The meeting was conducted by Marsh Chasteen, president, who also gave the invocation. Clair Stewart introduced the Rev. Earl Waugh, who gave the devotional, "Dying Grace. " Billie Pace, program chairman, introduced Gail Blakeman, who entertained the club with several piano arrangements titled, "Piano Impressions. " Pace, senior adult director, announced that "Out to Lunch" for March will be at the Heirloom at Midway, and members were reminded that a Lifeline Screening will be at the church on April 19 and the Senior Adult Celebration will be April 26 at the church.

The LLL Club met at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 17, 2007 at the Central Baptist Church for the regular monthly meeting and potluck luncheon. The meeting was conducted by James Crowell, vice president, who opened the meeting was a prayer. Clair Stewart introduced the Rev. Lee Cruse, pastor of Grace Church, who gave the devotional titled "Seek His face. " Lila Omobundro, program chairwoman, introduced Betty Smith of the Winchester Sun. She told a story of a haunted house. Billie Pace, adult director, informed the club that another club, "Out to Lunch," would be going to Boyd's Orchard in Woodford County on Nov. 11. The November meeting will be a week early due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 13. Those having birthdays in October were recognized and "Happy Birthday" was sung.

Financial aid workshop planned Danville High School's financial aid workshop for seniors and parents will be 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in the computer room, room 113, presented by Kim Baldwin from Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. A previous workshop was canceled. Valentine's Day gifts welcome at schools On Valentine's Day, the Boyle County High School and Boyle County Middle School will accept deliveries from parents and florists after 1 p.m. No glass, pottery, breakables, balloons or large stuffed animals are allowed to be taken home on the bus, which is a Kentucky State Transportation law. Habitat potluck appreciation dinner planned Habitat for Humanity Mercer County's annual potluck appreciation dinner will be 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church.

The LLL¿Club met Sept. 18 at Central Baptist Church for the regular monthly meeting and potluck luncheon. The Rev. Ed Davis called the meeting to order and gave the opening prayer. Dara Henry introduced the LLL¿Band that entertained the club with several songs that were enjoyed by all. Glenda Hoffman introduced Laurie Valentine, counsel for the Kentucky Baptist Foundation, who gave the group the opportunity to ask a lawyer questions. Minutes were read by Gayle Crowe and treasurer's report was given by Phyllis Henderson.

Ronald W. Kitchen, 65, of Waynesburg, died suddenly  on Thursday, May 10, in California. Ron was a member of the Jersey Cattle Association, past president of the Kentucky Jersey Cattle Club and retired from Whirlpool Corporation. He and Nancy were visiting Yosemite National Park where he enjoyed fishing, hiking and the glorious scenery. Survivors include his wife, Nancy C. Kitchen of Waynesburg; a daughter, Virginia Lee (Bryan) Williams of Findlay, Ohio; two grandchildren, Drew Anthony and Chloe Elizabeth Williams of Findlay, Ohio; a brother, David Kitchen of Findlay, Ohio; a sister, Sandi Spitler, of Findlay, Ohio; and his ex-wife, Barbara Schade of Lima, Ohio.

Work scheduled for local roads Kentucky Highway 1927 will be closed between Combs Ferry Road and Becknerville Road from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. L&E Junction Road will be closed April 2-5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily between Ecton Road and Schollsville Road. All work is scheduled on a tentative basis and is subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways. Health board to meet July 14 to review bids The Clark County Board of Health will have a special called meeting on Thursday, July 14, at 6 p.m. for the purpose of reviewing bids for the parking lot construction at the Health Department building at  400 Professional Ave. The meeting will be at that location. Smoking cessation class offered in July The Clark County Health Department will offer the Cooper-Clayton method smoking cessation class for 13 weeks beginning July 19. The class will be on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Home Health Agency, 273 Shoppers Drive.

The members of one local church gave their new pastor and his wife a good pounding this week. A “pounding” is an old-fashioned tradition celebrated in some churches to welcome a new pastoral family into the community. Traditionally, a pounding would provide a pastor and his family with staple items to stock the parsonage. On Sunday afternoon, Trinity United Methodist Church, 306 N. Main St., gave the Rev. Matt Seel and his wife Abby a pounding following a potluck lunch Sunday afternoon.
