Weather officials have not determined whether a tornado touched down in Powell County during thunderstorms Saturday. Jim Maczko, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, said he has not visited the site yet and is waiting on more information from Powell County officials. “We’re still waiting on county emergency management (to say) if we need to come out and look at the site,” Maczko said. Two tornado touchdowns were confirmed in Wolfe and Menifee counties late Saturday afternoon, including one in the Daniel Boone National Forest which briefly moved into Menifee County, Maczko said.

LIBERTY — The list is complete. The season is not. The five preseason goals listed on a sign displayed prominently in the Casey County locker room have been met, but the Rebels are ready to add some items to it after they checked off the last item — win a playoff game — with an historic victory Friday night. Casey’s 27-6 win over Powell County in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs took the Rebels beyond the goals they hoped to achieve this season, giving them the first postseason win in school history and their highest win total ever.

Among his seven offspring, Deloris did just what her father ordered. After dropping out of her southern Indiana grade school, she worked alongside her father on a tenant farm and then got a job in Louisville making cigars when she turned 16. That job was followed by employment in a New Albany, Ind., factory where she made baskets.

"Demon at Clear Creek" is a supernatural thriller-mystery inspired by a legend and the mystique of the Red River Gorge. It is the work of Kentucky native Robert A. Powell, who is best known for his research and writing about historical topics, especially Kentucky. However, this is not a new genre for Powell, and it is not his first work of fiction. The release of "Demon at Clear Creek" is Powell's 30th published book. This is the first to be released exclusively in the paperback format, though, which was Powell's choice.
