The following cases were resolved in Clark Circuit Court Nov. 19 with Judge Jean Chenault Logue presiding. ? Randall Smith Jr., first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, pleaded guilty, recommended five years; first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, amended to possession of a controlled substance, pleaded guilty, recommended one year; possession of marijuana, dismissed; sentencing Dec. 3. ? David Ray Coffey Jr., theft by unlawful taking, sentenced to one year, diverted for two years unsupervised probation.

STANFORD - A former secretary who embezzled $240,000 from the Lincoln County Industrial Authority was back in court Friday after falling $1,500 behind in her restitution payments. Elizabeth Hill had not made a $500 monthly payment since August, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Carol Hill said. Elizabeth Hill told Lincoln Circuit Judge David Tapp that she would make a payment this month and two in January. She said she had gotten behind because her husband had not worked since April and business at Curves, the women's fitness facility she operates, had been slow but is entering its busy time.

A Nicholasville man was arrested June 28 on an E-warrant stating he was in probation violation from Florida stemming from a conviction of 149 count of possession of computer child pornography.  Ronald Keith Neal, 60, of 109 North Glencove, was arrested and charged by Nicholasville police at his home.  The citation states officers confirmed he was a fugitive from Florida by using the National Crime Information Center database.  ...

The case against a Winchester woman accused of embezzling more than $24,000 from The Winchester Sun has been continued to Aug. 22. Michelle Holloman, 38, made her first appearance Wednesday before  Judge Brandi Oliver Brown in Clark District Court. During the pretrial conference, Brown scheduled a preliminary hearing for Holloman on Aug. 22 at 1:30 p.m. She also changed Holloman's bond from a $5,000 cash bond to a $5,000 cash or property bond. Winchester Sun managers first reported the theft to Winchester Police in June.

Ages and addresses are listed if available. Joseph T. Weaver, 51, 636 Hustonville St., Liberty, driving under the influence of intoxicants, $590, time served, and 90-day suspension of driver's license. He also was fined $750, sentenced to 14 days and his license was suspended for a year on a second DUI charge.

STANFORD - A Lincoln County man who admitted having oral sex with a child less than 12 was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison for five counts of first-degree sodomy. Circuit Judge David Tapp ordered William W. Mullins, 60, of Crab Orchard to serve the 40 years consecutively to 31 years remaining on a prison term Mullins received for burglary and robbery convictions from the early 1980s. That will make his total term of imprisonment 71 years. Commonwealth's Attorney Eddy Montgomery said Mullins, who pleaded guilty last month, admitted that he had oral sex five times with a girl who was only 8 and 9 years old at the time of the offenses.

A local man who pleaded guilty to 15 counts of first-degree sexual abuse in April was sentenced to five years in prison on each count Tuesday by Boyle Circuit Judge Darren Peckler. The 15 five-year sentences for William F. Coffey, 60, of 692 Bryants Camp Road, Lancaster, will run concurrently. Peckler pronounced the sentence after hearing Coffey apologize to his "family, friends and everyone this affected," saying he was "embarrassed. " Defense attorney Ephraim Helton requested probation for Coffey, submitting letters of character commendation as well as statements citing Coffey's poor health and otherwise clean police record, but Peckler said community standards mandated jail time.

Larry and Betsy Spengler of Winchester are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lindsey Ann, to Jacob Myles Frick of Winchester. Mr. Frick is the son of Howard and Kathy Frick, also of Winchester. Miss Spengler is the granddaughter of Betty Scott and the late Virgil E. Scott, and of Ken and Frances Spengler, all of Winchester. She is a 2000 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and is employed by Dr. Ronald B. Snowden, D.M.D. Mr. Frick is the grandson of Olive Frick and the late Charles L. Frick of Freehold, N.J., and of Elmer and Jean Crouch, of Winchester.
