LEXINGTON - When the ball left Clay Cinnamon’s bat, he thought his high school career was over. With two outs and his team down a run, the Mercer County senior lofted a high fly ball to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning early Saturday morning that appeared to be an easy catch for Pleasure Ridge Park’s Justin Burk. But the miracle season for Mercer County had its biggest miracle yet, as Burk dropped the ball allowing two runs to score to cap a wild comeback and give the Titans a 5-4 win and a berth in Saturday night’s state championship game against Central Hardin.

STANFORD - If Lincoln County could have scored as many times as coach Larry French angrily tossed his visor, the Patriots would have beaten Pleasure Ridge Park Friday. Instead, Lincoln could not overcome its own mistakes, PRP's speedy offense and a couple of questionable officiating decisions in a 30-13 season-opening loss in the PBK Bank Death Valley Bowl. "We made mistakes defensively. Our offense didn't drive the ball and keep it away from them," said French. "There were a couple of officiating calls that went against us. Our kids played hard, but then they got tired.

STANFORD - Lincoln County has playoff aspirations this season, and knocking off a team like Class AAAA power Pleasure Ridge Park on Friday would give the Patriots just the boost they need. "You have to play good people to get better. In our two scrimmages against Manual and Pulaski County, the kids have gotten a lot of confidence," said Lincoln coach Larry French, whose team faces PRP in the first game of the PBK Bank Death Valley Bowl. "We've looked better each week. We've just got to improve and get ready for the district.

LEIXNGTON - Boyle County played a tough schedule this season just for games like this. But until Thursday, the Rebels hadn't seen the overall quickness that Pleasure Ridge Park brought. The Panthers pressed Boyle for 94 feet, forced 22 turnovers that led to 28 points and coasted to a 67-43 victory in the first round of the Sweet Sixteen boys high school state tournament. "I think with the schedule we played, the John Hardins, the Shelby Countys, the South Laurels, we would be ready (for the quickness)

The familiar and powerful battery of Jessica Speake and Courtney Rhodus led the Lions to an 11-0 win over Pleasure Ridge Park Friday afternoon at the State Softball Tournament. Speake and Rhodus drove in three runs each, and each of them had a two-run hit to help Garrard (34-8) put together two early bursts of offense that were more than enough against PRP (19-18). Rhodus said they and the rest of the Lions were much more comfortable than they were in their first-round loss to Ryle.

LEXINGTON¿- Mercer County has made a name for itself in this state tournament, and now the Titans must face a team that did that years ago. Their opponent in tonight’s semifinal round of the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament is Pleasure Ridge Park, one of the most recognizable brand names in Kentucky baseball. PRP has won four championships — only three schools have won more — and has the state’s winningest active coach in Bill Miller, who has 948 victories and a .795 winning percentage in 32 seasons.

Seeing the success that Myron Pryor and Corey Peters, two Louisville natives, had playing football at the University of Kentucky had an impact on Brandon Dunn's decision to commit to the Wildcats. OWENSBORO - Jeff Meadors was one proud dad. It wasn't just because the Garrard County coach got to see his daughter play in the State Softball Tournament, but because he claimed all of the girls in the Garrard dugout as his own. Coming off double-digit losses in their last games, coaches Steve Stonebraker of Garrard County and Larry French of Lincoln County are ready to get their teams back on the field. But exactly which players Lincoln will see across the line Friday may still be up in the air when the Golden Lions (1-1) host the Patriots (0-1). Garrard lost 46-7 to Paris last week and was outgained 484 yards to 112. Stonebraker said Tuesday he could put a whole new team on the field, even freshmen, against Lincoln.
