Nov. 10, 1983 Tickets for the style show to benefit the Winchester-Clark County Humane Society will be available at the door of the Officers' Club, Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot. The style show will feature holiday fashions and gifts and fashions will be modeled by approximately 30 area residents. In observance of Veterans Day this Friday, the Clark County Chapter of the American War Mothers will place a wreath at the doughboy statue at the rear of the Clark County Courthouse.

Feb. 19, 1961   A 10-acre farm located on the Athens-Boonesboro Road and owned by Willie and Mary Murphy, was purchased at public auction Saturday by B.L. Woodford for $2,255. Washington (AP) — The federal government gave Kentucky surplus property worth $1,970,228 during the last quarter of 1960. Included were items ranging from school supplies to office materials, all earmarked for education, public health and civil defense, Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Abraham Ribicoff said Sunday.

PERRYVILLE - The city of Perryville soon will have a surplus building and lot for sale. Council members voted Thursday night to put a lot at the corner of Second and Jackson streets up for public auction in May. The lot will be advertised, and Mayor Bruce Richardson was given the authority to negotiate a contract with Helm and Reynolds Auction and Realty Co. of Perryville, provided a "satisfactory contract" can be reached. The council made the vote to auction the property after a 10-minute executive session.

STANFORD - The Lincoln County School Board will have to submit another plat of the old Kings Mountain Elementary School and lot for approval. The first plat for the old school, which will be auctioned off soon, was not approved by Lincoln County Planning and Zoning. The school board agreed on a new plat on Thursday. In the first plat the sewage treatment facility was not included in the lot the school was going to auction. A variance was not granted for that reason. The school board approved an expanded lot that also included an accessory building.

100 years ago - 1912 William Dalton and Courtiand Traylor, two young men from prominent families in Lincoln County, were arrested there by the U.S. Marshal and charged with selling liquor in Brodhead without a government license. The boys, ages 15 and 17, pled not guilty and it is probable that they will escape with the lightest possible sentences.    Kate Barbee, an employee at the Gilcher House has proven to outclass everybody in this area for growing peaches. She plucked a peach from her tree on East Green Street that weighed an even pound.

The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society will be auctioning off hundreds of items at a public auction at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Rita Mae's Auction House on 290 Stewart's Lane North. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for item viewing. The entire community is invited to attend this special event. All of the money raised during the evening of the auction will go toward improving some the facility's outdated living spaces as well as care for the dogs and cats housed at the DBCHS. Items will be priced from a few dollars on up. “Our humane society takes in nearly 3,000 homeless animals each year,” says DBCHS director Kathy Nelsen.

The Jessamine County school district is ready to sell two of its unused properties, and officials hope the money from the sales will be more than enough to perform necessary remodeling for changes next year. Money from the sales of the old bus garage property on East Maple Street and a property on Broadway Street could be used to prepare the old Jessamine Early Learning Village building in Wilmore for The Providence School, which will move there next year, Superintendent Lu Young told the Jessamine County Board of Education at its work session last Monday, Oct. 11. The other remodeling project on the district’s agenda for next year is the unrenovated portion of the current Jessamine Early Learning Village building.

Sept. 25, 1960 Congressman John C. Watts said here Saturday that he was hopeful that the next Congress could work out an effective farm program. He said that “farm voting power” in the congress had been greatly reduced in recent years and that it was becoming more difficult to pass beneficial farm legislation. Two hundred and two shares of stock in the Clark County National Bank were sold at public auction Saturday for $27,362, an average of $135.45. The purchaser was J. Smith Hayes Jr. The shares of stock were in units of 10 shares up and names of the sellers were not disclosed.

The Lincoln County Fiscal Court dealt with some routine business before retreating to a lengthy, closed session to discuss personnel issues regarding the jail and the Sheriff’s office. No action was taken on the sheriff’s personnel, but the court did approve an exception to county employment policy to facilitate Jailer David Gooch hiring a new administrative assistant. Typically, when the county hires new employees, they are under a 90-day probationary period where they do not enjoy any insurance benefits.
