LANCASTER - Laura Ray, 24, speaks her mind openly about her intentions for getting kids involved in 4-H. "I think that when kids are responsible for raising and growing something from a young age, they are instilled with a different kind of respect and it shows," Ray said. Originally from Ohio, Ray just started her new job as a Garrard County extension agent on Monday. She jumped right in. "I am excited about focusing on leadership and communication, two parts of the six-part 4-H curriculum that we'll be teaching.

Even if Danville City Commissioners "closed" a deal for 3.5 acres put aside for Hilldale Cemetery expansion, it may not be able to sell it without a public auction, according to a new state law. Commissioners have said someone came to them with a proposal about the land, and that they've met twice behind closed doors to discuss it. PERRYVILLE - The city of Perryville soon will have a surplus building and lot for sale. Council members voted Thursday night to put a lot at the corner of Second and Jackson streets up for public auction in May. The lot will be advertised, and Mayor Bruce Richardson was given the authority to negotiate a contract with Helm and Reynolds Auction and Realty Co. of Perryville, provided a "satisfactory contract" can be reached. The council made the vote to auction the property after a 10-minute executive session.
